[Dalian Wanda's] ‘The Great Wall’ Topples at North American Box Office

it doesn't matter. i am glad the film fail. or at least not as successful as it should be. it still made "even", just no profit. i have a good laugh at ghost in the shell numbers tho haha.

The Legendary Deal is make when this movie is in Pre-Production (Somewhere in mid 2015) The contract being sign on Jan 2016 does not mean the deal and its negotiation was done at that point. Signing the deal is literally the last step of the process.

During which Dalian Wanda would have creative control over all project in the pipeline of Legendary Production, which mean Dalian would have its way to deal with the movie prior to and after the deal was sign. That's because the movie is ongoing.

The true extend on how or why Great Wall is unknown, but judging from the distribution in China and the Crew, Story line and so one, it should be heavily influenced by Wanda's decision, after all, it's their money.

Also, Great Wall flopped, in box office, not making even. Making Even would have mean they need 450 mil but they only make 330 mil worldwide (US included), that is by Legendary own estimation. I will would have guessed a lower limit, at 400 mil, still it's 70 mil short of breaking even.

Wanda had no part to play. Another company, China Film Group was roped in to co-finance, but the movie was conceived and written by Legendary in the US. The producers and writers are Americans. Choice of director, Zhang yimou, was picked by producer, Thomas Tull, from Legendary.

According to MPAA, The Great wall was sponsored by 3 Chinese Production Company, 1 American, they are Le Vision Picture, Chinese Film Group, Legendary East and Universal thru Atlas Entertainment. The production duty felt to Legendary East and Le Visison, while Distribution is thru Chinese Film Group (To distribute the movie in China) and Universal (To distribute the movie overseas), which Mean Chinese would have creative control, production control over the movie while Chinese and American would have distribution control over the Great Wall.

The Executive produce (Who own executive right ) were 2 American and 2 Chinese
