D-8 meet in Dhaka begins tomorrow

The forthcoming Developing-8 (D-8) Ministerial Meeting on Industrial Cooperation 2012 scheduled to start from Monday in the capital will help boost mutual trade and investment among the member countries, said Industries Minister Dilip Barua.
"Mutual trade among the D-8 members is now worth US $16 billion. And the meeting will mark a development in the trade and investment sector of the bloc members," he told the media ahead of the international gathering at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the capital.
"Bangladesh will sign two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with two members of the block during the D-8 meeting. It will help Bangladesh brand in the industrial sector and draw foreign investment," he mentioned.
The venue of the three-day international meeting is Ruposhi Bangla Hotel. About 150 delegates including industries ministers, government officials and private sector representatives from the member countries will participate in the meeting.
There will be a seminar on SME on October 8, 2012 organised by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) at the meeting venue.
Bangladesh Oushad Shilpa Malik Samity will organise a seminar on pharmaceutical industry while Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) will arrange another seminar on textile and garments industry on October 9, 2012 at the same place.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be present as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the third D-8 ministerial meeting.
Mr Barua said the working group of D-8 ministerial meeting will focus on 12 industrial sectors such as automotive, cement, steel, electronics and IT, petrochemical and fertiliser, energy and environment conservation, food industry, textile and garments and SMEs etc.
He said that D-8 meeting will be an opportunity for the country's private sector to expand industrialisation with the support of the member countries.
He said the meeting will also discuss on how to bring prosperity in the industrial sector of the member countries. And the D-8 meeting will be a milestone for Bangladesh in strengthening its cooperation with the member countries in the field of industry.
The D-8 started its journey on June 15, 1997 in Istanbul, Turkey.
This will be the third meeting of D-8 in Dhaka. The members of D-8 are Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
