No flames, just thought it was funny coming from Kalmadi
Gurgaon: Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CWG OC) Chairman Suresh Kalmadi on Saturday said the upcoming CWG even would be better than the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Kalmadi said this during "Swagatham" ceremony held to unveil the CWG theme song in Gurgaon. The song - 'Jiyo Utho Badho Jeeto'- is composed by A R Rahman.
"It is going to be the best infrastructure in the world. It is going to have the best games; better than the Beijing Olympics," Kalmadi said.
On the preparations for the Games, Kalmadi said that everybody is working hard to ensure that the CWG event becomes a success.
"We promised that we will give you great games and we have to live up to that promise. Let there be no doubt about it. Everybody is working like a team - team India," Kalmadi added.
Also present at the ceremony were Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupender Singh Hooda.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has ticked off Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit over her remarks that there could be more CWG delays.
While speaking to Karan Thapar on CNN-IBN's show Devil's Advocate, Dikshit had said that rain may further delay the clearing of the construction debris.
"We are working round the clock. The moment rain stops, they (labourers) will start their work... I would not hope for a postponement. I am confident we will give you good Games," Dikshit told Karan Thapar.
Minister of State in the PMO Prithviraj Chavan reminded Dikshit that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself is monitoring the progress of the Games.
"We all hope that CWG happen on time. It's a matter of national pride and this is the largest project, we have undertaken, and the Prime Minister is himself monitoring the progress of the Games," Chavan said.
Over 20 agencies are involved in the city's beautification and Games-related projects, often working without coordination. This led to setting up of the Group of Ministers and other mechanisms to speed up the work for the October 3-14 Games.
I'm not sure about it being better than Beijing 2008 but I'm sure it will be impressive. Like Beijing it will be India's coming out party.
