Pak HC official commits suicide?
Saturday, July 19, 2008
By Rauf Klasra
LONDON: A Defence Section official of the Pakistan High Commission in London, who was recently posted here, committed suicide on Friday afternoon when he jumped out of the toilet window from the 4th floor of the building located at the Knightsbridge.
The suicide of the official, Munir Ahmed, has raised many probing questions here as to what might have forced the father of five children to go for such an act, particularly when he was posted in the UK on his own will.
Munir Ahmed's shocking death might become a source of new trouble for the Pakistan government because he was posted in a sensitive section of the embassy. The London police have already launched investigations and questioned the concerned staff of the Pakistan High Commission, particularly officials of the Defence Section. Munir Ahmed, 50, belonged to district Vehari (Punjab). He was living alone in London. He was recently posted here to work as an assistant in the Naval section of the High Commission.
According to available initial details, at around 3.30 pm, Munir Ahmed went to the office toilet, locked the door behind him and jumped out of the toilet window. The embassy staff immediately called an ambulance and when the medical staff reached the spot, he was still breathing. Efforts were made to save his life, but he breathed his last after sometime.
Talking to The News, Minister Press, Imran Gardezi, confirmed the incident and said the official had actually fallen from the toilet window of his office and investigations were underway to determine the cause of the incident.
