Crimea: March of the Tatars

In one of history's most severe and efficient incidents of mass exile, the Tatars in Crimea were removed from their homeland by Stalin in 1944. Within just three days, 200,000 Tatars were forcibly deported. After spending 50 years in exile, the Tatars returned to their homeland in Crimea at the collapse of the Soviet Union, and have since felt generally protected under Ukrainian rule. Following a fraudulent and illegal referendum earlier this year on whether to become part of Russia, Crimea was annexed by the Russian Federation — a move that brought back painful memories of persecution and oppression for the local Tatar community. VICE News spent time with Tatars around the time of the commemoration of their exile, and found a community already under pressure from new Russian authorities. It’s unclear what their future will hold under Russian rule again, and many fear that history could repeat itself.

If independence of Kosovo was legal then independence of Crimea and subsequent reunification with Russia was legal too. At least in Crimea there was a referendum. Even during census conducted in 2001 by authorites in Kiev majority of people in Crimea declared themselves as Russians so it's no surprise that majority voted for reunification with Russia.

Also don't forget that reunification of Crimea with Russia happened in a peaceful manner.

What US propaganda always omit is that reunification of Crimea with Russia happened after US founded coup against democratically elected president of Ukraine Yanukovych. Majority of people in Crimea and Donbas (as well as many people in other regions of the them Ukraine) didn't recognized US imposed yunta and decided to secede from Ukraine.

“Did they deliberately create that line of confrontation with Slavs on one side and Tatars on the other ?”

He replied:

“Yes, they wanted to pit Slavs and Crimean Tatars against each other, so that they would start a war, start slaughtering each other.”



Fortunately US failed to start a civil war in Crimea.

Interesting fact that about 7000 Tatars left Crimea and that is exactly number of "Hizb ut-Tahrir" members - terrorist organisation, some sort of local ISIS. All the rest Tatars stayed at home and enjoy unprecedented level of freedom and state care - Crimean Tatar language is now one of 3 state languages of Crimean Republic (in Ukraine - only Ukrainian), there are grand mosques under construction (Ukraine never gave permission to do it) and Crimean Tatars restoring connections with their brothers - Tatars of Tatarstan.
