Former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has said that he will not allow his daughters to play any outdoor sport, and feminists can say whatever they want about his decision.

In his recently released biography titled Game Changer, which he co-authored with journalist Wajahat Saeed Khan, the swashbuckling all rounder has made many startling revelations about his personal and professional life.

The cricketer is father to four daughters, named Ansha, Ajwa, Asmara and Aqsa Afridi. In the book, Afridi states that he will not allow any of his daughters to play outdoor sports because of social and religious reasons.

“The feminists can say whatever they want about my decision,” he writes in Game Changer. According to Afridi, his daughters, two of whom are in their late-teens already, are good at sports, but better at academics.

“Ajwa and Asmara are the youngest and love to play dress-up. They have my permission to play any sport, as long as they’re indoors. Cricket? No, not for my girls. They have permission to play all the indoor games they want, but my daughters are not going to be competing in public sporting activities.”

Afridi has previously landed in hot water with his remarks related to women. The big-hitting batsman came under fire in early 2014 after footage of a TV interview in which he praised the cooking skills of women in response to a question about their cricketing abilities.

In the days to follow, Afridi insisted his remarks had been taken out of context by people who wanted to bring him down after his performances on the field during the time.

In addition to controversial remarks about feminism, Afridi has made other revelations, including an admission that the year on of his birth is 1975, and not 1980, as previously believed.

He also hit out at former team-mates Javed Miandad and Waqar Younis for promoting politics within the dressing room of Pakistan cricket team during their coaching and playing days.

I am totally kind of a person who is not in favour of giving women too much freedom , even though we men are hypocrites because we like to stare at other women but we don't want anybody to stare at our daughters or women .... my point i that we men need to correct ourselves too so that nobody can question us , especially these so called broad minded people ......

This is wrong on so many levels. You think that women would want to sleep with leaden-hearted men?

FYI, athletics and even combat sports don't turn women into iron bars, that is physiologically impossible. It will, however, enable them to lead a healthy lifestyle, build character and discipline, help break out of the mould of a repressive male-dominated society, and lead them to become independent and chase their dreams.

If you are a Bangladeshi, i hope you have read about an article about your women cricket team a few months back when they used the toilet of a stadium as their dressing room as proper match facilities were not available for them. Such dedication towards the sport, and you want them to stay home and dance to your tunes.

I think Shahid is realistic because look at his background. The guy comes from conservative culture within an already conservative culture. He understands the life style these players live and what they have to go through. He knows way too well what kind of people cricketers are exposed to.. Just look at Alex hales.. He as a father wants a better lifestyle for his children and you cannot blame him for that.

He also said that one of his daughters wants to be a doctor and other wants to be a fashion designer. Its very tough to become a cricketer and then his children have his name so they will face a lot of hardship in cricket.

This new age bullshit where people think they can do whatever they want is unrealistic and causes a lot of harm in society. Just look at Desi people in the west, 90% want their children to become doctors but becoming a doctor is hard. The children just end up misguided and depressed. As a parent you must be realistic about your children and steer them towards a goal that is achievable and respectable. On the surface this might look harsh but he is being realistic.

most of the sports woman i seen have lost their womanly charm . if you want to independent their are other ways too like doing business or job that already many Bangladeshi woman doing . our garments industry is mainly operated by woman worker .

Then you have not seen any sportswoman in real life or perhaps only have seen the steroid laced fake wrestlers on television. I have been playing a combat sport for most of my life and have had the acquaintance of numerous sportswomen from fields like boxing, football, hockey, cricket, athletics and the like. They have to undergo the same rigorous training regimen as their male counterparts but that doesn't make them less womanly. What is your definition of womanly charm, by the way?

i dont know why certain things become issue of debate in a muslim society when we have clearly defined role model for muslim men and women. for men the ideal is Prophet Muhammad SAW and for muslim women the wives of the Prophet the mothers of all momins. we have the Quran and sunnah to judge anything. if anything is right according to Quran and sunnah we should adopt it and if it not recommended we should avoid it. things are very clear but our polluted hearts and minds are not ready to accept the truth and we follow our desire.

IMO, Afridi is responsible for his wife and daughters and will be questioned only for them. Others for theirs.
Anyone more liberal/feminist should not poke their nose in other's matters, whatever they consider good should only do to the one to whom they are responsible.
The dilemma of current social media is that, most of people act like they are better to decide the future of others towards whom they don't have any responsibility. Everyone should be remained in his limits and better pay attention to their responsibilities.
