There is no chance of any major cricketing team visiting pakistan in the near future.Even the Zimbabwe series is being played in only one ground...this tour is no reflection of the safety in pak.

I haven't spat any hatred...I am just stating facts based on the current conditions in pak.

Successful Zimbabwe tour will help Pakistan’s future gradually, feels PCB chief

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan hailed the spirit shown by fans in the country since international cricket returned after a six-year hiatus earlier this month, and promised to gradually attract more teams to visit the trouble-hit nation. Pakistan are currently engaged in a limited-overs series against Zimbabwe - their first since terror attacks on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009. Capacity crowds watched the two Twenty20 Internationals on Friday and Sunday despite massive security, comprising 4000 policemen, while fans had to go through five check points to get into the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

"The response is great and beyond expectations," said Shaharyar on the sidelines of the first One-day International.

"The crowds have been magnificent. People have overcome the security hassles but no one complained and put up a disciplined show and we will definitely build on that gradually."

Shaharyar, a former diplomat, said the cricketing world has also responded positively. "Zimbabwe has been appreciative that they got the best welcome. The cricketing world has appreciated our efforts and that gives us great satisfaction," he said.

"Giles Clarke (former chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board) and International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Narayanaswami Srinivasan phoned me and congratulated me on the revival of cricket in Pakistan. Sri Lankan interim committee chief Sidath Wettimuny will come to see the matches and we are also waiting on the response from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur's response on an invitation to tour Pakistan. We want to build on that gradually as we have more venues under consideration besides Lahore. Karachi, Faisalabad, Multan, Mirpur and Muzaffarabad are good venues and we can have proper series, with Test matches included, likely next year."

Shaharyar confirmed that the ICC would be informed in their meeting in Barbados next month about the progress on matches in Pakistan. "We will show a documentary of the Zimbabwe tour in the ICC Board meeting and hopefully perceptions about Pakistan will change gradually," said Shaharyar.

As for the proposed series against India - the first of six in eight years - later this year, Shaharyar said: "No one from India has suggested us to play the December series in India. It was agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the series will be played in UAE and that is the final situation." India stalled bilateral cricket with Pakistan in the wake of 2008 terror attacks on Mumbai, which the Indian government blamed on militants based in Pakistan.

PCB confident Wettimuny will say yes

KARACHI: Pakistan’s calendar is chockablock with international commitments in the coming months but the country’s cricket authorities are confident of finding a window in case a foreign team agrees to visit here.
And they are targetting Sri Lanka to be that team.

Well-placed sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) told ‘The News’ on Thursday that hopes are high about the possibility of Zimbabwe’s ongoing tour to be followed by another home series “as soon as possible”.

The optimism in PCB springs from what a reliable source described as Sri Lanka’s positive response to Pakistan’s invitation for a series of medium duration.

“The Board has received positive vibes from the Sri Lankans about the possibility of their team visiting Pakistan,” a source said, adding that there is a chance that a deal could be sealed on the sidelines of Pakistan’s third and final One-day International against Zimbabwe at Lahore’s Qaddafi Stadium on Sunday.

The man at the helm of Pakistan’s efforts to secure another home series is Shaharyar Khan, the PCB chairman. He will be meeting Sidath Wettimuny, the former Test cricketer who is currently heading Sri Lanka Cricket’s interim committee.
Wettimuny has been invited as a special guest by PCB to witness the final ODI against Zimbabwe, which like the other games of the series, is likely to be witnessed by a packed stadium.

“Shaharyar is confident that he will convince Wettimuny to agree to his team’s tour of Pakistan. He (Wettimuny) will see for himself the sort of security arrangements that have been made for the Zimbabweans and will be told that similar measures will be taken to assure the safety of the Sri Lankans if they agreed to play in Pakistan,” the source added.
Pakistan have a series of international commitments following the home series against Zimbabwe. They will embark on a tour of Sri Lanka early next month and will then host England in the UAE before a possible series against old rivals India.

“Our schedule is pretty full but the Board will certainly find a window to fit in a series once the Sri Lankans agree to send their team to Pakistan,” a PCB official told ‘The News’.

“Our biggest goal is to revive international cricket in Pakistan and in a bid to achieve that everything else can take the backseat,” he added.

The PCB chiefs are hopeful that since Wettimuny is himself a former international cricketer he will know the importance of home games for the survival of cricket in any country.

“Everybody in the cricket world feel for Pakistan cricket. And everybody in the cricket has seen how we have welcomed the Zimbabweans. We are sure he (Wettimuny) will also want to help Pakistan cricket.”

A contemporary of Pakistan legends Imran Khan and Javed Miandad, Wettimuny played 23 Tests and 35 One-day Internationals for Sri Lanka during the eighties.

It would be a tricky decision for Sri Lanka to send its team to Pakistan considering that six years back the country’s cricket team was ambushed by armed terrorists in Lahore. The attack left eight people dead and many including Sri Lankan cricketers and team officials injured. That tragic incident forced international teams to stay away from Pakistan for more than six years. It was Zimbabwe who helped Pakistan break the ice by sending its team to Lahore to play a series of limited-overs matches.

With honesty I am saying Cricket is not going to normalize in Pakistan. They are not going to see any big team. For sure Zimbabwe or Srilankan B side can visit Pakistan but not a team with big name. A blast or few bullets fired around Hotel will change the things in a minute. I hope it does not happen and things get normal in Pakistan but this is just my opinion.

Washington trip: Islamabad to share RAW terror link proof with US

ISLAMABAD: Amidst an uptick in terrorist attacks and a growing chorus of accusations against India’s top spy agency for aiding and abetting such violence, Pakistan has decided to raise the issue at the international level.

While Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s top aide said Islamabad would name and shame New Delhi, Pakistan’s top diplomat, who left for Washington on Sunday, is expected to share with US officials evidence of RAW’s increasing involvement in stoking terrorism in Pakistan.

Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry will lead a Pakistani delegation at an important meeting of the working group under the Pakistan-US Strategic Dialogue. Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah confirmed to The Express Tribune that the meeting would take place on June 2 in Washington. The meeting is a part of the ongoing Strategic Dialogue between the two countries, he added without giving details.

But an official familiar with the development said that the talks would focus on bilateral relations, as well as issues related to arms control, nuclear non-proliferation and international security. The top diplomat is also scheduled to meet senior US officials during his stay in Washington.

The official, who didn’t wish to be named in the report, disclosed that Chaudhry was given a ‘brief’ by the government to inform the Obama administration about the alleged involvement of India in fomenting unrest in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who along with army chief General Raheel Sharif, visited the headquarters of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) on Saturday, alleged that foreign intelligence agencies were destabilising the country. It is understood that he was referring to RAW.

The official said Foreign Secretary Chaudhry would share ‘fresh evidence’ with US officials about the increased involvement of RAW in creating trouble in Pakistan. He is also expected to raise the issue of recent statements given by India’s defence and interior ministers in which they called for “neutralising terrorists through terrorists”.

Islamabad says such controversial statements confirmed its fears that Indian secret agencies were involved in terrorist activities in Pakistan.

Prime Minister’s Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz also indicated on Sunday that Pakistan would expose India at the international level for ‘stoking unrest in the country’.

Speaking at a function organised by Nazria Pakistan Council, Aziz made it clear that Pakistan would not allow its enemies to undermine the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor.

He also insisted that the Indian ambition for hegemony in the region would not be allowed to succeed. Aziz maintained that Pakistan’s nuclear explosions in 1998 had ‘shattered India’s dream’ to establish its hegemony in the South Asian region.
