Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif says China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will make Pakistan regional manufacturing hub and very attractive market for Foreign Direct Investment.

Talking to a delegation led by President KOC Group Turkey Fatih Kemal Ebiclioglu in Islamabad on Thursday, the Prime Minister said CPEC includes major infrastructure, energy and communication projects.

He said that the government and people of Pakistan attach great importance to relationship with Turkey. He said Pakistan and Turkey share common perceptions on all regional and international issues.

Nawaz Sharif appreciated the initiative of the KOC Group to enter into the Pakistani market by acquiring Dawlance, a premium home appliances company of Pakistan.

He said improvement in security situation has enhanced Pakistan’s position as an attractive destination for Foreign Direct Investment in the last three years.

The Prime Minister said our Investment Policy has been designed to provide a comprehensive framework for creating a conducive business environment.

Appreciating the economic turnaround achieved by the present government Fatih Kemal Ebiclioglu said that Pakistan is an ideal place for investment and his company is determined to further invest in various sectors of Pakistan’s economy.

. .
We need continued and sustained 10% growth in 2020-2030 decade at the bare minimum.

Hopefully our allies (Saudi Arabia, Turkey, China etc) will invest heavily and help us develop economically...and hopefully the government and all political parties will be dead serious about this.

The time to goof around is gone. It's now or never for Pakistan.

.
So what will Pakistan manufacture due to CPEC?

Dreams and Promises. Sorry folks - too hard to resist..

Realistically it would be the goods where China has lost it's competitive advantage due to higher labor and other input costs as it moves towards mid-tech goods/services and environment friendly practices.

So my guess would be water intensive, labor intensive, higher pollution causing manufacturing

- Chemicals
- Textile
- Furniture
- Plastics
- Glass
- Steel Mills (shifting outdated or surplus capacities from China to Pak)

That can happen only if Pakistan offers lower costs than Chinese domestic production even after such a gradual transition as you describe, which is likely not an accurate assumption to make.

lolz there is no need to back out! it is a step forward anyway.
i wont say a "regional hub" just yet but manufacturing is sure to increase and the effects of that will be positive for sure. no doubt about that!

"Regional Hub" kiya cheez hey, CPEC will make for "world’s biggest economic activity" in Pakistan.

Coming from a serving General, that claim is more believable, I suppose. :D

Chai pani for the those who transport Chinese goods from China to Arabian Sea(Gwadar).:)

Sorry, not trolling here but to be a regional manufacturing hub Pakistan needs much more then 46 billion dollars investment. Those 46 billions are mostly for the corridor and the warehouses facilities China is developing for the transport of its goods.
Surely the Chinese investment will help but it will never be enough. Once the security situation improves, your establishment must grab all investment opportunities in Pakistan.
CPEC will improve employment in Pakistan no doubt about that.
