What's new

CPEC is dead. Somebody tell Beijing.

.
Difference was before it toke about 9 hours to reach Sukkur from Multan, now it will take just 3 hours.

that is great. with a private jet you can go faster. that does not translate into ROI

Wear and tear on trucks, saving in fuel, saving in time [possibly 3 times reduction as you pointed out] and easy access to port enabling a 10-12 hour link from the farthest point north on the Afghan border with global economy means this project is win win. Most of the network will pay itself as it is BOT and toll charged. The true benefits will compound over the next two decades. Expect new industrial estates and even new towns to crop up along the 1,000 miles of motorway. This is just the begining. How far this goes is for people and governments of Pakistan.

What is particularly impressive about this industrial estate in Faisalabad is it is entirely driven by private enterprise. The estate is being developed by local companies. This is the model for rest of Pakistan to follow and sure enough therre could be 10 times ROI over next two decades. Peace, focus and stable governments are needed though.

LOL The last time I checked it is alive and kicking.

Some irrelevant rat writing paid content doesn't make it dead.

Let me tell you what is dead. Indian Afghan project.

It actually slowed down quite a bit, even in later part of last govt you don't hear so much enthusiasm about CPEC any more.

.
If you navigate around the M-4 motorway in the emerging industrial estate what is impressive is the speed and scale this is taking place. This structure is about half a mile long. If rest of Pakistan can repeat this along thier section of the Peshawar-Lahore-Karachi motorway the ROI will be impressive.

It did. Projects got delayed by change of government and the subsequent financial problems but non of that changes the strategic thrust of the project.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

This article made my day, what a joke.

I always say that keep on working on CPEC without highlighting it too much.

These motorways will transform Pakistan over the next decade. Pakistan as a country is laid along a north south axis with River Indus forming the backbone. Most of the population is also strung along this length. This north south axis forms Pakistan's ecnomic corridor with the terminus being Karachi port. The problem is most of the population is far away from the port and transport costs are high along the chocked N-5.

With completion of Peshawar 2 Karachi motorway the entire country will be linked with a high speed motorway. This means the entire north south corridor will be connected to the port and the word markets. This means you could set up industry along this 1,000 mile long motorway network, running from Afghan border, Peshawar 2 Islamabad 2 Lahore 2 Faisalabad 2 multan 2 Sukker to Karachi and be able to transport your goods within 12 hours max along a efficent transport corridor. Now it is for Pakistan entreprenuers across the entire lenght of the country to engage with global economy as the port will only be few hours away. I expect major benefits to accrue within the next decade as the trade corridor takes off. Most exciting will be new trade or industrial zones sited right next to the motorway. Surprisingly this is already happening. Below [Numbered 1 above] is just north of Faisalabad along the M-4 section of the motorway. already you can see a giant industrial estate emerging spread over 4 miles on south side of the motorway. This motorway corridor could be the next biggest change in terms of transport that hit the Indus valley since the British built the rail network linking the north to Karachi. Like I said it's upto the millions of Pakistani's who live along the corridor to make this a chain of economic activity that ties in with the global trading order. We could see 10 times the return over the next few decades.

Ideally we should expect a string of such trading estates to take root from Peshawar all the way 1,000 miles south to Karachi. So no, CPEC is not dead. It's just moving into phase 2 now.

Below is the emerging Rashakai [numbered 2 above] not too far from Peshawar. Ultimately it is for all the Pakistani's to leverage this north south corridor and build for the future.

@Nilgiri thoughts?

Its a good analysis...and best of luck to everyone involved. Yes you are right the final key thing will be the economic chain engagement. You can have an excellent modern grill (infra), but you still gotta have the good meat, seasoning+spice rub and handling+prep skill for good BBQ (production + wealth creation). Its the latter that will determine if getting the former was worth it in the end.

Just to support a corrupt family and then try to mislead our friends so they get worried and may show concern; one has to stoop to such level of lies & malicious propaganda and conveniently ignores the fact that how come parties involved in CPEC wouldn't calculate/assess or even be unaware if it has anything to do with propaganda like that. Be it ET or anyone else, instead of looking at the source just evaluate the ambition.

Not to forget that Sharif Family has too many claims to bag credibility like making Pakistan a Nuclear Power to the ownership of CPEC and what not. Media representatives working for such families have nothing to do with journalism at all rather sold very cheap to political clowns who failed with anything else to seek public attention.

However, I can hope that someday State will start to call upon these kind of writers to the Court and seek clarification/evidence to support their claim whereby in-case of failure, be punished in exemplary manners so no one else ever dares to propagate as such.

By ''you'' i mean the whole band of comrades.
Plenty of my threads were deleted while they broke no rules.
Even a pictorial thread of Imran Khan's excursion with IRGC was deleted, dude those pictures were public.
Maybe you should change name to pussyman or caveman, get over it Batty, stop bitching and act like a man, even though you are an Indian.

.
....because CPEC is not an investment into Pakistan, it is structured as a resource extraction exercise. Here is how it works: China announces that it has invested in a project in Pakistan worth, let’s say $1 billion. That $1 billion, however, is required to mostly be spent on Chinese equipment, and labour, a significant portion of which is to be imported from China as well, with very little by way of supplies coming from the local economy.

That $1 billion, therefore, never hits Pakistan’s economy as an investment. It is $1 billion that goes from the Chinese government or state-owned company to a state-owned company within China to pay for equipment. Even the Chinese labour gets its salaries deposited into bank accounts within China. The money, in other words, stays completely within China and so never shows up as foreign investment into Pakistan.

Where it does show up is in the trade statistics: that $1 billion of equipment will show up as an import, against which Pakistan will have to arrange foreign currency from somewhere. And it will show up as a liability on the balance sheets of whichever company or government entity is contracting with the Chinese government or state-owned company.....

I have seen many Pakistani members on this forum worried about this particular aspect. I hope in long term cost-benefit analysis, this is aspect is properly factored in.

I don't want to adopt your family name.

@Dubious that's the new policy of you brothers to target those, who expose IRGC.
