I think, the cases of Joy Kumar and Putul Kumari are little different. They will be tried in the countries of their criminal activities. However, their lawyers may be able to prove that theirs were only Business Commissions, which may not be illegal.

If they have already paid govt income taxes in those countries on those incomes from commissions they may not be liable to prosecution.

Once they are found not guilty the next BD govt may find it difficult to bring them back to BD. I believe these siblings have prepared documents that can defend them. In case of Sk. Rehana only the British govt may try her if it is proved she has broken any British laws.

However, I wonder if Interpol will be able to extradite Tareque from England to Bangladesh. Is there an extradition treaty between the two countries? There will certainly be a legal battle in the British Court, and Tareque can always seek a political asylum.

So, AL govt will be losing this case and Tareque will be getting more focus and more popularity, although I personally do not like him to become so for stupid reasons. Tareque has singlehandedly destroyed BNP by working a lone wolf from his Hawa Bhavan. He destroyed the reputation of General Zia.

BNP should prosecute him for all those offences once it is back to the power.

My question to you why he should be charged with corruption when he was not related to either bureaucracy or with a Ministry? Corruption charges can be brought only to people in the govt. So, the word 'Corruption' is not applicable for him.

He may be charged with buying dollars in the market and sending it abroad. But, why this is corruption?

Its a proof that Bangladeshis has real gold fish memory. Tariq was released on parole to take medical services abroad.Maybe that was for 1 year and his charges were in court. But he some how managed to flew from the country with the extraordinary idea of illness. Now its more than 1 years and he is fully cured.
So let the son come home or you would say politicians are imune to judgements.

The most hated Hanif is leaving the country. He amassed a fortune during the AL period. It proves he received brokerage commissions from various companies and private businessmen. Can he be prosecuted for taking commissions? I doubt it.

But, if he had coerced someone to pay him money he can be prosecuted. Anyway, Hanif will leave the country for fear of his life and will come back when the people start demanding the bloods of the BNP leaders five years from now.

In Bangladesh politics, one group comes out of Jail and ascend the throne. Another group descend from the throne and enter the Jail.

বিএনপি চেয়ারপারসন বেগম খালেদা জিয়ার বড় ছেলে তারেক রহমানের বিরুদ্ধে মানি লন্ডারিংয়ের মামলায় সাক্ষ্য দিতে রাজি না হওয়ায় নির্মাণ কনস্ট্রাকশন্স কোম্পানির মালিক খাদিজা ইসলামকে বাড়ি থেকে উচ্ছেদের হুমকি দিয়েছে গুলশান থানা পুলিশ। রবিবার রাত সাড়ে ৯টার দিকে নয়াপল্টনে বিএনপির কেন্দ্রীয় অফিসে আয়োজিত এক জরুরি সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এমন অভিযোগ করেছেন দলটির চেয়ারপারসনের উপদেষ্টা শামসুজ্জামান দুদু। তিনি বলেন, রবিবার বিকালে গুলশান থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওস&#2495 নিজে গিয়ে খাদিজা ইসলামকে হুমকি দিয়ে এসেছেন। আগামীকাল সোমবারের মধ্যে বাড়ি না ছাড়লে দুই প্লাটুন পুলিশ নিয়ে গিয়ে তাকে উচ্ছেদ করা হবে বলে তিনি জানিয়ে দিয়েছেন।

সংবাদ সম্মেলনে দুদু বলেন, মানবিক দিক বিবেচনা করেই খাদিজা ইসলামের পাশে দাঁড়াবে বিএনপি। যদিও রাজনৈতিকভাবে বিএনপির সঙ্গে তার কোনো সম্পর্ক নেই। তিনি আরো জানান, খাদিজা ইসলামের স্বামী মরহুম কে জেড ইসলাম। গুলশান ৯৬ নম্বর সড়কের ১০/বি নম্বর বাড়িটির মালিক ক্রয়সূত্রে কে জেড ইসলাম। বিগত ৩৫ বছর যাবত তারা ওই বাড়িতে বসবাস করে আসছেন। অথচ পুলিশ এখন সম্পূর্ণ অন্যায়ভাবে তাদেরকে এই বাড়ি থেকে উচ্ছেদ করে দিতে চাইছে।

গতরাতের সংবাদ সম্মেলনে বিএনপির গণশিক্ষা বিষয়ক সম্পাদক অ্যাডভোকেট সানাউল্লাহ মিয়া বলেন, খাদিজা ইসলাম যখন আদালতে সাক্ষ্য দেন তখন তিনি তারেক রহমানের নামটিও উচ্চারণ করেননি। ওই বিদ্যুত্ কেন্দ্র স্থাপনের কাজে বিদেশি নির্মাতারা মামুনকে কনসালটেন্সি ফি দিয়েছে মাত্র। এর সঙ্গে মানি লন্ডারিংয়ের কোনো সম্পর্ক নেই।

ইন্টারপোল চাইলেও তারেক রহমানকে গ্রেফতার করে দেশে পাঠাতে পারবে না -ব্রিটিশ সলিসিটর

স্টাফ রিপোর্টার : রাজনৈতিক আশ্রয়ে থাকলে কাউকে তার দেশে ফেরত পাঠানো যায় না। তারেক জিয়া রাজনৈতিক আশ্রয়ে আছেন। সে কারণে তাকে দেশে ফেরত পাঠানোর প্রশ্নই আসে না বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন ব্রিটিশ ইমিগ্রেশন বিশেষজ্ঞ সলিসিটর বিপ্লব কুমার পোদ্দার। তিনি বলেন, তারেক জিয়া এদেশে (ব্রিটে&#2472 রাজনৈতিক আশ্রয়ে আছেন। তাকে চাইলেও ব্রিটিশ সরকার বাংলাদেশে ফেরত পাঠাতে পারবে না।

তিনি বলেন, তারেক জিয়ার বিরুদ্ধে যে গ্রেফতারি পরোয়ানা জারি করে ইন্টারপোলের সাহায্য চেয়েছে বাংলাদেশ সরকার, তা বাস্তবসম্মত নয়। সলিসিটর বিপ্লব পোদ্দার বলেন, চাইলেই ইন্টারপোল রাজনৈতিক আশ্রয়ে থাকা কাউকে গ্রেফতার করে দেশে পাঠাতে পারে না। কারণ, রাজনৈতিক আশ্রয়ে থাকলে ব্রিটিশ আইনে কাউকে তার নিজের দেশে পাঠানোর সুযোগ নেই।

আদালত রোববার বিএনপির সিনিয়র ভাইস চেয়ারম্যান তারেক জিয়ার বিরুদ্ধে গ্রেফতারি পরোয়ানা জারি করে। এরই পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে ব্রিটিশ ইমিগ্রেশন বিশেষজ্ঞ বিপ্লব কুমার পোদ্দারের সঙ্গে স্কাইপের মাধ্যমে আলাপের সময় তিনি এ মন্তব্য করেন। তিনি বলেন, ব্রিটিশ সরকার যদি বাংলাদেশ সরকারের অনুরোধ অনুযায়ী ইন্টারপোলের কাছে হস্তান্তর করতে চায়, তাহলে ব্রিটিশ ও ইউরোপীয় আইনে পরিবর্তন আনতে হবে। কারণ, রাজনৈতিক আশ্রয় লাভের আইনের আর্টিকেল ২, ৩ ও ৬ ধারা পরিবর্তন করতে হবে।

তিনি বলেন, এই ধারায় পরিবর্তনে আনা হলে শত শত রাজনৈতিক আশ্রয়লাভকারীকে তাদের দেশে পাঠিয়ে দিতে হবে। তিনি বলেন, সরকার আসলে ভ্রান্ত ধারণার ভিত্তিতে এ পদক্ষেপ নিয়েছে। তারেক জিয়া ব্রিটিশ আইন অনুযায়ী এদেশে বসবাস করছেন। সুতরাং ইন্টারপোল চাইলেও তারেক জিয়াকে গ্রেফতার করে দেশে পাঠাতে পারবে না। তারেক প্যারোলে মুক্তি নিয়ে চিকিৎসার জন্য লন্ডন গেছেন এবং তার বিরুদ্ধে গ্রেফতারি পরোয়ানা জারি আছে, তাহলে তাকে কেন বাংলাদেশে ফেরত পাঠানো যাবে না, এ প্রশ্নের জবাবে তিনি বলেন, তারেক জিয়া যে ভিসা নিয়েই আসুন না কেন, তিনি তো ব্রিটিশ আইন অনুযায়ী রাজনৈতিক আশ্রয়ে আছেন। সুতরাং সে কারণে তাকে বাংলাদেশে পাঠানো সম্ভব হবে না।

গ্রেফতারি পরোয়ানা সম্পর্কে তারেক জিয়ার মন্তব্য কী জানতে চাইলে তিনি বলেন, গ্রেফতারি পরোয়ানা জারির পর তারেক জিয়ার সঙ্গে এবিষয়ে কোনো কথা বলার সুযোগ হয়নি। এদিকে, লন্ডনে অবস্থানকারী তারেক জিয়া ও বিএনপির নেতাদের প্রতিক্রিয়া জানার চেষ্টা করা হলে বিএনপির কোনো নেতাই এ বিষয়ে মন্তব্য করতে রাজি হননি। আর তাছাড়া সেখানে বিএনপির কোনো কমিটি গঠিত হয়নি।

তবে লন্ডনে বসবাসকরী বিএনপির সাবেক আন্তর্জাতিক সম্পাদক মাহিদুর রহমান বলেন, বর্তমান সরকার তারেক জিয়ার প্রতি ঈর্ষান্বিত হয়ে গ্রেফতারি পরোয়ানা জারি করেছে। এটা আইনসম্মত কিংবা গ্রহণযোগ্য নয়। তিনি বলেন, ওয়ান-ইলেভেনের পর তারেক জিয়ার বিরুদ্ধে যে মামলাগুলো দায়ের করা হয়েছে, তার একটাও প্রমাণ করতে পারেনি সরকার। এটা সরকারের রাজনৈতিক সিদ্ধান্ত। সূত্র : বাংলানিউজ
