In 1971 my uncle was serving at Karachi port. Once during conversation, he said that our port was blocked for few days. None of ship could leave the port(may be for two days or so). Then came PAF in action. And Bang. Only then our ships again started their normal operations in Arabian sea.

2002 and 2008 are not wars, so where is the question of blockade? I was saying in case of a war. If Pakistanis think that India will not block your trade lane in an event of war. Then I can only say you are living in a fools world. You army is strong, your air force is average, and you navy is the weakest link. If you want to win a war, you have to hit at the enemies weakest link.

There is a difference between 'being ready for a war' and 'a war'. And Kargil was not a full fledged war. Pakistan claims that Kargil was not done by Pakistan's army but by Jihadis. But I am sure if Kargil would have gone by few more days, India would have imposed a naval blockade. As I said India spends considerable amount of money on its Navy, so there is no reason to think that India will not use its navy when it is needed.

Theoretically yes the IN can put up a blockade
But the result would be heavy losses for IN and stiff resistance from PN. ..
Also bear in mind that putting up a blockade is not an easy task as it would require tremendous amount of time. .
The IN would be better of without putting a blockade as it would simply be not worth it. .

Karachi port handles 60% of Pakistan's cargo traffic.

Even during sea blockade India can not stop a foreign flag vessel to not enter Karachi port.
Pakistan does not have many cargo ships and oil tankers of its own. Most of its cargo is handled by foreign flag registered merchant marine ships.

And India cant do anything that way, to stop foreign flag vessels, because that would attract a quick UNO resolution spearheaded by China.

It would be a interesting scenario for me to read/hear that India stopped a Chinese vessel. That would be a marine standoff.
