‘Corridor’ threats to sovereignty

Nothing personal but Bangladesh first.

So you are ready to forgo millions of dollars in transit fees so that you can keep a group of people economically backward. What type of backward and self defeating mindset is this? Dude the world is not standing still. Sooner or latter some type of cost effective alternate routes will be found that will by pass BD, if you continue on this mindset. .

Let me try and ask Bangladeshis why they get paranoid as if their existence is under threat.

Look at it this way : You are helping your neighbour and you get infrastructure from west to east for free. Let us for the sake of the argument think that it is only for movement of Indian goods. But tell me if you really had good infrastructure to connect your country from left to right.

Worst comes to worst, ask India to stop transit if you think it is more problem than benefit dont you see how easy it would be and the potential economic benefits for companies from logistics to tourism? But do it with proof and not with theory of BNP or so called pseudo intellectuals. Your Government has a deal, let the deal play out and in case it is not favourable, then vote it out.

Everybody has an opinion about something and most of the time there is support for every choice. you choose which choice based on what your perception is. And we are human and sometimes choices created confusion.

India should not trust Bangladesh, Monmohan was right when he said quarter of Bangladeshi population swear by Jamat, and for Jamatis it's more important to harm India even if harms Bangladeshi interest as well.

There is Bengali idiom for this - “nijer naak kete porer jatra bhongo”. This means that you cause harm to yourself with a belief that your actions are inflicting more harm to others.

India should heavily invest on Siliguri Corridor, make freight corridors early and put his money on upcoming Burmese port.

There is another saying in my place which when roughly translated means "The dog will not eat and will not let the cow eat"

or "the mother who doesn't mind his son die as long as she can make daughter-in-law cry".

Yes, please do not delay.

We have discussed about the transit many times but as many bhartis has strted to make lots of fuss and yout raised the issue of BILLION DOLLAR INVESTMENT and MILLION DOLLAR EARNING so I have decided to ask you some question?

Will you please care to tell me from where these BILLION OF DOLLAR investment will come from and how Bangladesh is going to earn millions ???? India is already getting free water and rail transit based on a treaty which was signed by indira Gandhi with a war torn country in 1972 using emotional blackmail India helped Bangladesh for liberation. This year India asked to extend it up to 2016 obviously to enjoy free transit and to get free transit Indian government asked Bangladeshi government to withdraw the fees which was imposed by finance ministry and national board of revenue of bangladesh. As usual the stooge government of Hassina and awami league has cancelled the fees due to indian request and extend the transit time up to 2012. If it is not
exploitation and lower graded emotional blackmail then what it is?

N regarding road transit so far many theory has been heard but the latest is India will cover only the operation and maintenance fee and any damage done to the road due to usage of Indian truck. If every money goes on repair and operation and maintenance then how come bd will earn your MILLIONS OF DOLLAR income.?

For your info to build the road network it will require 7 billion usd dollar. Even for the sake of your argument let's assume east to west gets connected .... Still will bangladesh make any profit... Even to recover the construction cost. instead if Bangladesh will invest the 7 billion in other projects for say 7000 mw of electricity generation then for sure it will contribute to a huge margin to the GDP growth. But if Bangladesh invest this 7 billion in transit to facilitate indian goods moving how much Bangladesh will profit.... Taking economic consideration in to account does it really make sense for Bangladesh to invest in it when there are many other threats are also associated with it. But still there is big question from where this 7 billion usd dollar will come from.

Now I know you will talk about the 1 billion usd aid that India will provide to Bangladesh. But for your info that is not aid but loan. If it would be only loan then there would be no problem but the main issue is Indian government has assigned many clues in to it such as 85% of the goods or service should be procured from India. Only Indian contractors will inmlement the project. If can not provide any goods it should be provided by service provider selected by India. FINALLY THE BIG CLUE ONLY INDIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY WILL DECIDE WHICH ARE THE PROJECT TO BE IMPLEMENTED NOT BANGLADESHI GOVERNMENT. Now tell me is it really a aid or shoving the poor graded Indian goods and product to the throat of Bangladesh. If Indian would be a real well wisher it would ask Bangladesh select the best service provider through tender. Already many people raised object for the issue including the financial adviser of the previous caretaker government Dr. Akbar Ali khan. He raised the question under which circumstances hassina signed the deal. Under this Bangladesh will virtually have no bargaining power as everything will decide by India and service will be provide by India.

Public opinion has gone hugely against it not on one day. This hassina government was selling the dream for the last couple of year that Bangladesh will become Singapore if it provide the transit, then huge amount of money Bangladesh will earn. later it gradually fall down to 1 billion usd then India will provide only the operation and Mai tangence fee to free transit as to the adviser to hassina mashing Rahman it would be uncivilized to claim transit fee from India. now latest news has emerged that Bangladesh is not only providing free transit but also providing subsidy to the Indian truck as they are using all the petrol and fees which are subsidized only for Bangladeshi product. now tell me what any country's people react under such circumstances.

It is not like that BNP, Jamat are against transit. They have asked for creation of win win situation. Khaleda Zia proposed for a mechanism where India will provide 70% of the amount that they will save. Definitily it will bring Indian truck drivers 30% savings along with a huge amount of time. But India and Al flatly denied this.

Just 1 question is rounding in my mind are the Indians are all begged that they have such cheap mentality where instead of making a win win situation they are just interested for free transit and miscuing the cow as much as possible. Eventually the probable result will be they will kill their golden goose and the stooge hassina at the same time.

Food and fuel for the troops are also considered military purpose.

As for Indo-Sino war, it may or may not happen. Your attitude is just like a man who doesn't want to cash in the jackpot ticket as tax will be deducted from his winnings.

So, how much Paisas your govt is willing to pay to Bangladesh? Is your govt willing to pay $7 billion to build the infrastructures like roads and bridges inside BD? Does your country have that much of money to spend? If so, better it develops its roads and brodges all across the Shiliguri corridor.

Instead, India wants everything free of cost from BD and uses its influence on certain Party to achieve that. India is just a disturbing element and a nuissance to us. It takes away our peace of mind and forces us to spend money on defence. We want to get rid of Indian hegemony.

In time of a war with China, India will force our weak govt to allow the supply of logistics. This will cause a permanent rift with China. So, India is not welcome in Bangladesh. India should develop its own infrastructures in the Chicken Neck in order to strengthen its position in the NE.

ULFA is fighting for their people's freedom from India. NE was not part of India before 1780s. Read the history before some Indians send rants. We do not have to take part in India's internal affairs by allowing transit through our land that helps Delhi to make a strong grip on NE.

This has been beaten to death in this very forum, Indian companies will pay you more than what they pay in Suez Canal transit. Anyway pay structure and everything are debatable but attitude of Bangladeshis are laughable at best when they say transit will develop North East so it shouldn't be given!

There was no Bangladesh before 1971, does that mean the country should seize to exist? You not giving transit to NE have whatsoever no effect on India's sovereignty over North-East nor will it have any long time effect on NE to catch up with rest of India.

Myanmar: India rejects China rivalry, Sittwe port by 2013

Time is running out for Bangladesh, if they want to be hinterland of economically prosperous and mutually benefiting South Asia, then so be it.

Time if running out of what??? Transit fees... Muhahahahahah
Get your own infra sorted and the port in Myanmar. Our ports are overwhelmed by our own demand. We dont want further investment on something which has negative return.

Show us the money first then we will talk.

You and I both know the ground realities behind the chest thumping, so best of luck with your deep sea ports!

As far as infra in India is concerned, don't worry we are getting there.

Time is running out for Bangladesh, if they want to be hinterland of economically prosperous and mutually benefiting South Asia, then so be it.

Then why is your government interested in the transit through Bangladesh in the first place? Having being living here, your government has been pressing pretty hard on the issue through the AL. You do understand that the shortest route to the NE is through Bangladesh? Generally speaking, the shorter the distance, the more convenient it is. And by road is a very convenient mode of outbound logistics. This also applies to military operations as well.

Explain how come some of the current Bangladeshi politicians say it would be a crime to collect transit fees from the Indians? Whatever the current pay structure is are just theories.

And in fact, the Tista issue and the transit issue are two completely different things. Why AL suddenly combine them?

I understand the economic potential of this, but it has to be fair. Also, a big NO to movement of military related material through Bangladesh - which I believe none of your politicians have been clear on the matter other than just 'nice guy' talking.

If you think that by making a rail line everything will be solved you are living in the fools heaven. You can little bit shorten time developing infra on shilguri corridor but there is no substitute for Bangladesh.

It is time for India to decide whether they want a win win situation or just a free lunch. If it want this they are welcome to whatever it wants. N by the port obviously India is paying for it and will remain on myaanmar's control. So they can kick out India any time. N with this free usage of port if myanmmar gets prosperous n if bhartis are selling this dream to the people of myaanmar then only god can save them.
