Corona Virus and Working from home

.
I've been working from home full time since March thanks to COVID-19. I'm enjoying it, never want to go back to a daily commute, my company has signaled they're unlikely to ever return back to a system where people are always working from the office. I save money on travel, on lunches, i save my commuting time, I am less distracted, i get to spend much more time with my family, i can do chores during my lunch break or immediately after work.

How are your experiences?
Are you currently WFH?
How are you finding the experience?
Do you think you'll go back into the office?
Do you want to go back to the office?

I think we'll never go back to the old normal in the UK. It suits businesses to have less office space, it suits employees to have less commuting. It will significantly impact retail and hospitality in the city centres, as well as public transportation, but as far as i'm concerned - tough. The miners had to roll with the punches, now it's time for others to do the same.

I was already home working 2 days per week so the transition to 5 days was pretty smooth - plus a dedicated den (study) with proper office furniture. Having worked in roles that required little presence in the offices for some years, my preference has always been to work from home if the systems are in place. Just ordered the second monitor to replicate the dual monitor setup at work as there is no rush to go back to office anytime soon.

So glad that schools have restarted .... so peaceful now ...

I do miss them when they're not at home but i'm glad for the peace. The discipline we had at the start of lockdown was wearing thin now.

Discipline? Bro - try disciplining a 5 year old! lol
Thankfully we have a massive garden and he has been able to build a den or 2. I think hes ready for the real world interaction now!

I've been there. My 9 year old was intruiged by what my colleagues look like. She'd peak over my shoulder at my Teams calls. She also decided that any time i was on social media instead of work stuff was time where i should be doing stuff she wants to do.

What discipline?? The only time I had quiet time was during calls ... 'rola' during calls is a red line leading to grounding in rooms for hours ...

I work in IT, which means working remotely is a norm in my field of work. Have been doing it since past 10 years, however not to this extent and it has its pros and cons (i.e. you have liberty to work remotely without worrying about commute, getting ready for work and lunch etc, however, there is no excuse of not working :-)).

Like others, I am also working from home since March and dont think will be going back to office anytime soon. In our organization they did a survey to find out if people will feel comfortable going back to the office and guess what? 55% said Not at all (myself included), about some 40% said they are okayish to work 1/2 days in the office and 3/4 days from home and remaining for whatever reason were desperate to go back to work, which is mind boggling to me atleast.

I think working remotely is beneficial for both employer and employee, cuz for employer they dont need to have work space to house everybody, specially in bigger organizations which have 1K+ employees (which means saving on their part, because they can have a small office). And for employees, they dont have to spend time, money and effort on long commute, gas and even dressing, I mean I literally haven't spend money on my office clothing since Feb this year, so again more saving. However, on contrary I understand it will hurt many businesses and jobs, which is very unfortunate.

Working remotely hasn't affected my daily routine, infact I manage to workout during my 8:30 to 4:30 hours, which wasnt doable pre-pandemic. This means I get more sleep time (sometimes I even take a nap) and I can spend more time with my family.

One thing is for sure this pandemic has done, bring family members closer and we have more family time, which I reckon was missing in our lives earlier.

Last but not the least, one thing we should try to understand that business, schools, offices are getting reopen and life is somewhat getting back to normal, however, its not because COVID is over - (NO ITS NOT), it is happening because economy cant stay on hold forever. Which means we should still follow all the protocols which we have learned to combat the virus from March.

Alright, I have done my quote of posting at PDF today, enough of my rambling ...
