A contract for construction of Multipurpose Barge (MPB) was signed between Ministry of Defence Production (MoDP) and Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW) on 10 June 2016. The said barge will be built at KS&EW for Pakistan Navy, based on an indigenous design.MPB will provide pollution control services to Pakistan Navy. This is second of the series barge to be built at KS&EW for Pakistan Navy.

A contract for construction of 2 x 32 Tons Bollard Pull (TBP) tugs was signed between Ministry of Defence Production (MoDP) and Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW) on 10 June 2016. The said tugs will be built at KS&EW for Pakistan Navy, for which Kit of Material will be obtained from a South Korean firm. The tugs will provide services for berthing, dry movement, towing, etc of ships and other vessels of Pakistan Navy. These will be the second and third tugs of the series that will be built at KS&EW for Pakistan Navy.

With expansion of KS&EW IN SHA ALLAH more projects are to follow.

We already are operating a similar 32 ton (korean origin/manufactured by KSEW) tub boat in operation named PNT Zordar. There are quite a few other tug boats in operation as well

Plus KSEW have been making its own smaller capacity (12 ton) tug boats. One such is named PNT Jeedar.

So that means, 8 submarines, a fleet tanker, 6 MPVs, this "Multipurpose Barge" and two tug boats ,in total, are going to be built at KSEW,right? Or am I missing out on something?

Well if this is sarcasm, you are spot on!
If it is being excited about all these developments, i will like to mention the production capabilities of KSEW, the number of docks and berths available for construction. There is absolutely no why, even with the planned expansion considered that all these can be taken on simultaneously. HOWEVER, some of these projects wont take much time to complete either.

No, I wasn't being sarcastic. :3 But seriously though, aren't the things I mentioned going to be built at KSEW? Because there were some previous threads which stated this. And yes of course, I didn't mean they would be built simultaneously.

Preference should be given to more important projects like submarines and frigates instead of wasting time and such a huge facility for making barges which can made some private small to medium sized organisation.

Yes some submarines will be build in China but still KSEW is in no position to take on the construction of so many vessels, even if the planned expansion is completed. If this actually do happens, it will mean the sub project is delayed by some time and that the completion of all these will take decade. What about the required frigates etc? I think that the barge and the tugboats will be built one at a time, same for the MPV (some are to be brought from China). With the tanker occupying the third berth there will be one or may be two spaces vacant for future frigate project. But then again, you need some berths vacant for large scale maintenance work, for some emergency situation of for some upgrade.

The submarines can be handled one at a time and two once the expansion is all complete. Plus there most probably will be some brought directly from China. This way, all these things will take 7-8 years to complete.

We plan to, we need them!
There is nothing decided or signed yet but PN surely needs to replace those Type 21s, like yesterday! A better AAW capable frigate is what we should opt for and if money allows, for 6-8 frigates (may be even two classes, 4 heavier better AAW frigates and 2-4 more on the lines of F22p)

Shouldn't you have checked that before you gave me a negative rating?

It was a serious comment and logical follow up to @Certain Somebody 's comment. As described, this is a minor deal so why is everything so fancy? Is this normal Pakistani business practice? Or is there something else important involved that the reporter didn't mention?

2016 is a landmark year for Karachi Shipyard, as it will carry out steel cutting of 5 ships, including 2 x 32 ton Bollard Pull tugs, Missile Craft and 2 x ships for Pakistan Maritime Security Agency.

Handing over ceremony of 2x Landing Craft (Mechanized) to Pakistan Navy was held at Karachi Shipyard & Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW) yesterday. Rear Admiral Syed Imdad Imam Jafri HI(M), Commander Logistics Pakistan Navy, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The ceremony was attended by high ranking officials from Government, Pakistan Navy, KPT, PQA and KS&EW.

MD KS&EW, Rear Admiral Syed Hassan Nasir Shah HI(M) in his welcome address highlighted the status of ongoing and future projects of Karachi Shipyard. He also expressed that KS&EW had constructed similar six landing crafts for Pakistan Navy in 1976. As compared to the previous ones, these 2 x LCMs are distinct because of their new design and additional equipments. He also announced that Karachi Shipyard has been entrusted with the responsibility of construction of 4 submarines. This project will elevate KS&EW among the elite club of few shipyards of the world where construction of both submarines and ships are undertaken. 2016 is a landmark year for Karachi Shipyard, as it will carry out steel cutting of 5 ships, including 2 x 32 ton Bollard Pull tugs, Missile Craft and 2 x ships for Pakistan Maritime Security Agency. It will also witness launching of 17000 Ton Fleet Tanker and FAC (M) 3 for PN. Both these projects will add significant value in the seaward defence of Pakistan.

Later, the Chief Guest in his address expressed great pleasure and satisfaction to witness successful completion of another indigenous shipbuilding project of Karachi Shipyard. He said that induction of 2 x LCMs will contribute in enhancement of capability and transportation of men and materials. He acknowledged that Karachi Shipyard has successfully delivered various vessels to PN of high quality standards and within the contractual timeline.

Furthermore, he expressed his gratitude that Karachi Shipyard is contributing to the economy of Pakistan by generating revenue, providing jobs, payment of taxes to the exchequer and saving precious foreign exchange. While appreciating the workforce, he also said that Karachi Shipyard is a rare example of a public sector organization which has been revitalized completely due to efficient management and workforce. Moreover, he also congratulated Karachi Shipyard for the landmark achievement of securing the construction contract of 4 x new generation AIP submarines.
