We already know the answer. The real question here is whether Pakistanis, specially of the kind found here on PDF, ready to admit it? :D
Nope. Three bitter truths Paks can't come to terms and will do a ostrich on -

  • The military in Pakistan is legacy of British Raj
  • The basic economic, physical and military structure of Pakistan was built, paid for by USA
  • The Afghan's suffering/sacrifices gave the cover to Pakistan developing nukes.

Ps. I am not giving reasons of why, how but the reality behind the facts that shaped Pakistan.

Pakistan would have been the Asian tiger long ago had the Americans shoved their model of administration down the crown's leftover throat, the Pakistani bureaucracy , along with their technical and financial support.

Whatever the Americans built here, the flag bearers of this colonial legacy dint leave any stone unturned to spoil it.

Pakistan is almost bankrupt today. 50 years ago it was even poorer. Question?

  • Who designed it?
  • Who built it?
  • Who gave the money for it [most importantly]?

@Hamartia Antidote @VCheng @gambit @TexasJohn @KAL-EL Team America might be interested in this.
World Bank was the facilitator and guarantor of Indus Water Treaty. In the follow up to that, there were 3 large dams proposed on rivers under Pakistani right. Tarbela, Mangla and Kala Bagh
It was all with WB funding, approved consultants and contractors.
Mangla and Kalabagh were to be first build, but Wapda people and other responsible in Ayub Khan cabinet were of the view that Kala bagh is a relatively easy project, which was to be built in 5,6 years. Tarbela was much more complex and took 15 years to be completed.
Therefore, Tarbela was built and after that.. you know the history Kala bagh became controversial and we are not able to built a dam of this scale till now

Who is going to ignore that.. Those are facts.
Pakistan army is obviously highly British constructed since we received the entire military structure from the British India. From bases to officer corp to ground troops to paramilitary. It was a blessing that we didnt have to go through the mess of creating an entire armed force which would have been a mess quite frankly especially considering the fact that a few months after our inception we were embroiled in a war. We have a thread here about officers not ducking during fire fight where many highlighted this tradition from British officers..

Yes.. Pakistan is not an oil or abundant resource blessed country like Iran or Arab nations.. The entire cold war aid not only helped build our physical structure but also helped our modernization programs within our army. Even our own self sufficiency in many weapon production can be attributed to the starting capitals that helped fund our defence budgets..... Considering our state after inception such inflow of cash helped stabilize Pakistan quite a lot..
There is a reason why people joked that the three As are keeping pakistan standing.

Allah
America
Army..

And for fourth.. Yes.. The soviet war which lasted a decade gave pakistan the perfect cover to make its nuclear program a success.. We see today how much Iran struggled and is struggling with its program and despite being an oil Rich nation the western sanctions have damaged the Iranian economy at a massive scale something that we could not have survived against. People often give example of the 90s sanctions but fail to realize that the 90s sanctions were nothing compared to the 40 year sanctions Iran has faced.. Iranian sanction are true sanctions intending for economic isolation.. We would have faced the same had the US not been so preoccupied with Russia and the cold war bcz after the afghan war ended US found itself occupied with the dismantling of a super power and it's warheads... By the time the US found time, it was too late.. the entire time line from Bhutto asking his scientists about starting the nuclear program and being told they can but they need money to pakistan procuring warhead plans and building delivery systems in the 90s.. The entire period of 1975-1995 saw two significant event which forced the US to turn a blind eye to the working of its major ally. One the afghan war and second the break up of USSr shortly afterwards... So yes the afghan war helped our nuclear program. Nobody can deny that and as wars bring suffering to it's people thus the statement that the suffering of the afghan people helped cover Pakistan's nuclear program is true..

Who would deny all three when all three are visible even to those that read 5th grade pakistan history. :p
