LAHORE:

The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) is committed to constructing Mohmand and Diamer-Bhasha dams as early as possible, said Wapda Chairman Muzammil Hussain.

He was chairing a meeting of Implementation Committee on Diamer-Bhasha, Mohmand Dams (ICDBMD) to discuss various matters pertaining to land acquisition and resettlement, procurement and financing of both projects.

Expressing satisfaction over the pace of development of the Mohmand Dam, he lauded that construction activities had gained momentum in the wake of groundbreaking performed by Prime Minister Imran Khan in May 2019.

“Evaluation of proposal for consultancy services and bids for award of civil works concerning the Diamer-Bhasha Dam are at an advanced stage,” he said. “Following the award of consultancy services and civil works, construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam is likely to begin within three to four months.”

Appreciating the ICDBMD for support, the chairman elaborated that the dams committee had tremendously contributed towards implementation of vital projects of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams.

. . . . .
The people of Diamer still await the compensation for their land, they have given up on a lot for this country and most of them are still without proper compensation. Now WAPDA is telling most of displaced people that they can get the land in suburbs of Islamabad, but why should native people leave?

We need to be sure to take care of people of Diamer first and for most. When I was recently there, people were protesting and holding public meetings for this issue.

. . . . .
good it begins but should be completed in time unlike other projects like brt
He said soon. We have to wait and see when they start the actual construction work.
But first they need to finalize bid and proposal.
Its 8~10 Year project minimum if everything goes smoothly and Main Transmission Line is deployed in time connecting it to National Grid.
They will need minimum 2 Main Lines to ensure backup and future projects in north.

Problem is infrastructure to enable such a large scale construction.
The realignment of KKH is currently under swing from dasu to chilas which will probably be completed in 2 years (bear in mind that the realignment will still be a standard road)
Now currently the road from dasu to chilas has no way of supporting the transport of heavy machinery needed for dam construction.
Even if the realignment of kkh is done the will have to take the burden of both normal traffic and machinery needed for basha dam construction

Dasu dam being near areas with better infrastructure and facilities allows the government to lower costs .
While basha dam will not only need construction of the dam but a massive investment in the region too.

. .
It will cost around 15-20 Billion USD,
Who will finance it?

.
Dams can be build much quicker. It depends how much money and effort govt is willing to put it. Give engineers proper tools and infrastructure, They will build it
Your assessment have 2 major flaws.
1> Its a Big Project (Plus we first need 200 KKH (against 100KM Submerged KKH) & Main Transmission Line)
2> Site Location (Its a remote site, building infrastructure, Moving Heavy Machinery, Equipment & Materials will be difficult and time consuming.
in 3 to 4 years.
Not possible. You can type 1 year, 1 month or 1 week but it will not change the ground reality. 8~10 years years if everything goes smoothly.
