Constable arrested, suspended for sexually harassing 14-year-old
High drama prevailed in Shastri Nagar, Manimajra, on Saturday night when the UT Police arrested and suspended a constable, Hari Pal Malik, who allegedly outraged the modesty of a 14-year-old girl who lives in his neighbourhood. The accused has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
The incident happened when Malik allegedly took a 14-year-old girl who lives in the neighbourhood on the rooftop of her residence. Reportedly, Malik is a tenant in the same house in which the victims family also lives.
My daughter had gone to the roof for some work. Hari Pal was also there. He tried to restrain my daughter by putting his hand on her mouth and started to drag her. A neighbour saw him outraging the modesty of my daughter and called me. I ran upstairs and saw my daughter with the constable, the victims father told Chandigarh Newsline.
Following this, the victims father and other neighbours nabbed him and called the police. The victims father also claimed the accused had sent lewd messages to his daughter a few days prior to this incident. Since the constable and the victim lived on two floors of the same house, they often played together at the rooftop. When the accused was first caught sending lewd SMSes to the victim, the complainant gave the constable a warning.
On the complaint of the victims father, a case was registered last night and the accused was arrested. He was later suspended by the senior officers of the police, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (East) Vijay Kumar.
However, the complainant claimed that for about four hours, one or the other person from the police station tried to convince him to enter into a compromise. For four hours I kept sitting in the police station after which an FIR was registered, said the complainant.
The DSP added that the accused constable had recently got married. Malik had been working as a constable in the UT Police for the last two years. At present, he was posted in the Police Station, Sector 19.
