The Seychelles government has joined hands with India to build India's first naval base on the Assumption Island in the Indian Ocean region as a joint project between both countries.

The island country has allocated a plot of land on the Assumption Island, which will help to enhance maritime security along India's west and south coast. This initiative has come following China's establishment of its first African naval base in Djibouti in November 2014.

The new naval base aims to put an end to piracy around the East African part of the Indian Ocean. Besides, India will also acquire a fully operational coastal radar system in Seychelles from March 2016.

Relationship between India and Seychelles has positively improved in the past few years. Indian music maestro, A.R.Rahman was named as the Ambassador of Seychelles in October 2015.

Here is the island allocated to India:

Guys any idea what happened to Farkhor and/or Ayni air bases in Tajikistan? Its gone complete 'Top Secret' and we hear nothing about it.

Heres a map of bases and locations in Indian Ocean:

Dont we have listening stations and radars in Madagascar, Oman, and other locations all over the Indian Ocean. This base will add executive abilities in the region now, not only monitoring. Lovely!

There are Indian outposts in Madagascar, Oman, Seychelles, Maldives and Mauritius.

Addtionally the Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles and Sri Lanka will all have Indian coastal radar stations set up on their coasts and will be connected to the IN's Control Centre in Delhi.

riding shining Indian Power !

One full Indian base is required at Oman. Oman is quite friendly. We need a base near the Chinese Djibouti base.

Do anyone know what kind of infrastructure will be set up in these base ?

. . . .
We have a listening station in Oman to monitor all activities in Djibouti.

But a full blown base there would ensure that we are the kings of Indian Ocean.

The Indian Navy has basing rights in Oman.

Then why are not creating a naval base at Oman ?

because India has worlds highest number of poors...what right we have to go for bases...simple

Security is important to safeguard our economic interests. We all know , where there is peace there is prosperity.

We need more ships for that. Our navy is expanding at a extemely fast rate. Nearly every week a new ship launch. But all ship builders are at capacity. We need time to build up enough numbers to make more foreign bases.

There is a limit to how much the MoD is able to commit to projects at any one time, right now the ANC is being massively augmented and this base in the Seychelles is being devloped (not to mention the coastal radars being set up in 4-5 IOR nations by the IN)- for now basing rights in Oman are more than sufficent. In 5-6 years the IN may revisit this decsion.

India spends $600 Billion on sanitation and poverty eradication. That is twice the GDP of Pakistan lol.

Agreed...no need to expand at a pace which cannot be maintained....
