Concern over India's coastal nuclear plans

i strongly feel japan should have poured concrete over the 40 years old reactor and buried...
they cannot risk people life once they know so many probs are there to correct things right now..
hopefully worser things wont happen

i feel india should go for reactors with most available safety features
if we have home, near reactor.. we must have confidence in reactors safety
otherwise no one will agree..

There are 2 reasons why JAPAN's situation is very different from our situation.

1. Japan's reactor was pre 1972 era reactor whereas the indian reactors are the latest designs which have evolved for more than 40 years over Japan's installed tech.

2. Ratnagiri is a plateau. Its average height is ~100 feet above sea level with a minimal geological activity.

3. India's coast line is more then 2000 Kms away from any major fault line separating earth's tectonic plates.

India does not have the luxury of renouncing nuclear power. the Japanese designs were of 1972 vintage and current technology would have coped better with the circumstances. the new technology in the event of such an earthquake would automatically shut down the reactor and there won't be a possibly of meltdown.

Good, I'm glad that there's some concern over this now. Let them take the action necessary to make our energy source safer.

India is already aware of the consequences of a leak. It affects people in India and the neighbourhood. I am sure they've taken all necessary safety precautions before even installing the reactor.

Still, there is no harm in improving the safety standards. All countries with access to nuclear tech should at least run further tests.

The concern shown over the reactors is commendable , however in India those who raise these concerns tend to state half facts or have a motive behind what they do . even if something is perfectly innocent they try to make a big boohaa about things .

Why didn't they just dig a big deep pit before installing a nuclear reactor.
