Those pictures you post are misleading, every army, police and law enforcement agency in the world have soft skin and armored vehicles that are used depending on the risk assessment of warrant / duty execution. That Toyota Truck you posted is not poor, it is the work horse of the police and is loving referred to as the "dala" by Punjab Police,

With the induction of more advanced vehicles comes the issue of maintenance and operation, Motor Pool and MT is stretched to it's limit in cities like Karachi and Lahore, are you honestly suggesting that inducting high maintenance armored vehicles will solve the problem?

What is the point of having equipment that you cannot maintain? White elephant much?

@RescueRanger, I am suggesting to save the life of our thousand police and rangers, we are not worried about high maintenance armoured vehicles as we are inducting some of heavy maintenances MRAPS, Lazaar, and others given by US.

Well, the OP who created "iForceWarfare" fanboy just added all the pictures randomly, it doesn't mean all of these vehicles are used in Military only. Also recent IDEAS2014 was displayed both Military and Police latest inventories.

We have been little improved in progress from cheap truck to average better quality vehicles like Muhafiz

its all about availability of funds. Police and civil law enforcement agencies are the most under-funded organizations and at the same time most corrupt. I think u get my point.

At least Pak should do for Police is to weld heavy Armour plates around these Datsun/ Dalas of police with one sheet below to at least provide some protection from domestic IEDs and bullets. The role of police has changed now they have to face directly terrorists with latest weaponry along with gangs like Chotoo Gang.

In India same practices were followed by their police during actions against Sikhs even they used dome sort of armored protection on tractors.

Any engineering professional will tell you that there is no point in having machinery that will break-down, hence regular maintenance & a large supply of spare parts is essential to keep your machines in good working order. This costs money and manpower resources.

I counted 15 different kinds of APC’s. Even though Talha & Saad appear to be derived from M-113, there are still too many different varieties of APC & IFV’s in Pak Army's inventory. Their maintenance must be a nightmare for Elec. & Mech. Engineering battalions. . The stress should be on lean & lethal army and not tail heavy with a large maintenance contingent.

It is understood that no one vehicle can do all the tasks required in a large army; however I would have hoped that Pak Army planners would have streamlined their requirements and reduce the types to about half the current number. I am not suggesting reduction in absolute number; just concentrate on having more of the ones that are best for your needs.

Every competent engineering manager is trained to optimize material & manpower resources and avoid duplication & wastage. Does Pakistan’s Defence College runs a course on Organizational Ergonomics and Optimization?
unfortunately army has high say in our forces thus more than required personnel, useless inventory ..where as, the navy and airforce have suffered

We now have the expertise to develop a ground up APC based upon the M 113 series of vehicles and HIT derivatives. Essentially, M113 hull was stretched and the sixth wheel added to produce Al-Saad with some other modifications. The need is to introduce an AFV and not an APC.

Furthermore, our poor law enforcers are patrolling in Toyota Hilux vehicles with little or no protection. In fact the occupants sit looking at each other instead of keeping their eyes peeled outwards and away from each other. On top of that in an urban setting they their top protection is and 20 gauge metal roof!

We have been in this our WoT for now almost a decade and a half, both in rural and urban areas, and we have not been able to come up with a vehicle that has some protection for our patrolling LEA personnel!

It is relatively easy to select a basic chassis, upgrade/reinforce the suspension with higher rating shock absorbers or leaf springs, strengthen the chassis H member with reinforcement plates bolted on. Mount a re-rated engine, Change the tire's to self inflating or bullet proof type. Provide blast deflection shields to the engine (As is done on the SA Casspir) and crew compartments. Design the Cab and Crew compartment with angular surfaces to enhance ballistic protection against small arms and install bullet proof glass.

Recently, a Land Rover based LEA vehicle has been seen on the roads of Karachi which is fully enclosed with bullet proof glass and hatches on the roof.

Yaar, Muhafiz 3, HIT dragoon and Pak Armouring Uqaab are all qualified to replace Toyota Hilux.
