Commonwealth Games 2018

I am a little stumped. Is B'desh a better sporting nation than Pakistan. Hard to believe.
Bangladesh is matching Pakistan and even going ahead of it in many fields be it economy be it exports be it sports
I think Bangladesh is better even in cricket

About the Commonwealth Games, it is strange for former colonized countries to participate in games named after their colonizer.

That she is though I doubt @jamahir will agree.Kudos bhai

Manika is cute and her smile is nice.

It was funny to see her team's male coach jumping up and down with the girls.

Hard for female athlete to fit jamahir norms of beauty

You are correct on most of them. :D

I liked Sania Mirza when she initially became famous. Voluptuous.

And I like the Indian squash player Dipika Pallkal. She has a lovely smile and a sexy grin. There is a vid of her grin from a magazine's event somewhere but I am unable to find the vid.

But this vid I did find was of her husband trying to teach her the Tamil language.

Then there is Putin's rumored lover Alina Kabaeva. Then there are one or two others like Martina Hingis ( when she was not so thin earlier ).

Congrats to Indian and Bangla players. Especially women who are pride back home.

Breaks my heart seeing my country sucking at sports as well. Someday, maybe !

India made light work of Nigeria's challenge and won the final 3-0 to clinch the nation's ninth gold in CWG 2018.

Young Gurdeep Singh is on top after snatch in 105 kg weightlifting. He is favourite for some medal. Lets see and hope.

He was facing some issue this time, could not clean and jerk well at all, though he posted a score at least and got 4th.

Congrats to Pakistani lifter, only 20 years old, in same competition, setting a junior games record for his total I believe....and he got the bronze. @django @lastofthepatriots @Imran Khan

India beats Malaysia in Badminton to clinch Gold medal for the first time.

Kidambi Srikanth really impressed me (handling LCW of all ppl like that!). He looks good to get a medal in next olympics. I remember when he was still being pretty inconsistent last time I watched him play....he has risen up the rankings too, no 2 in the world, dayum.

Lee Chong Wei, the slayer of the Chinese Titans on their own turf (and he has had my respect always, esp when he was at his prime), the veteran former no. 1, was made to look pretty amateur in long stretches by Srikanth. I think the crown has been passed. @rambro

We can fetch few medals in boxing and wrestling. Lets see the count.

Its fine, but we will never be no. 1 in the rankings given the bulk of the medals are being proliferated in swimming and cycling (which we do zero at)....which prefer AUS/ENG/NZ etc. Conversely, our own sporting strengths have largely been kept stagnant in number of events (weightlifting, wrestling etc) and they are even going to remove shooting in the next CWG (2022, dunno if permanent thing). In fact large reason why we scored no. 2 rank in delhi 2010 was the number of wrestling medals expanded just for that games by large amount.

Not that its a bad thing per se, hopefully it will apply pressure to improve the facilities and talent scouting and overall funding in these sports too, given again thats where a lot of the olympic medals are too. The story of Indian badminton holds much promise for the other sports now I feel. We should just not take our position in the rankings too seriously at least till we improve our talent penetration in the bulk of the medals given away.

Other way to tackle it is to get more Indian/Desi sports into all the competitions, be it CWG or olympics etc.
