Those North Eastern people are excellent athletes in sports like Weight lifting and boxing.. Mary Kom comes to mind

Indeed they are really tough people in many disciplines. Was talking with my mom the other day about it actually.

I just wish I live to see the day this genetic "soil" in India truly flowers. The early shoots are promising.

BTW I watched that mens weightlifting event. Sri Lankan fella did a great job as did the Indian debutant who won bronze. But the Welsh fella that won gold really deserved it, he worked really hard and had that extra pump on the day, it really matters on the day (I saw the reverse among a few who did not even post a result in the clean and jerk).

The Samoan guy was totally crazy, he went for the full glory (gold or nothing) instead of playing safe to guarantee a medal for himself....because he is clean+jerk specialist and played his card all at the end. Hats off to that guy haha....made it really exciting.

. . .

He didn't perform as well as his potential (if you look at his training stats and PB's), but it was enough....the samoan guy was doing great and could have won as result.

I think he is solid medal candidate at the olympic level if he gets his act together fully (its often mind over body on the day of the performance). He is very young too, so very promising future, maybe 2 - 3 olympic strong podium opportunities.

I am a little stumped. Is B'desh a better sporting nation than Pakistan. Hard to believe.
