@ AliBaz "But so many dictators are/were very dear to them."
Precisely why you must not insist on yet another dictator. He will ingratiate himself to others at your expense.
@Aamir Hussain
Odd that amongst all the aspects I alluded to; you chose the least significant to Pakistan itself?
I mentioned Muammar in reference to his flamboyant uniforms. Now visualize him v Zia ul Haq at a UN event. You may have
seen a capable Pakistani leader and a silly but generous Arab leader. But by and large rest of the world saw two tin pot
dictators vis-a-vis say an Indian leader in civvies. Musharraf finally grasped this and began to wear sartorially admirable
bespoke attire in his last years in office.
>>The take away is that even if your military dictator is the most capable, upright person; others see him as just another third world clown suppressing his own people and willing to please everyone else to satisfy his own vanity. That belittles the nation he represents.
As for your "article", it originally appeared in some local paper without authorship. I concede your point that Libyan theatre is perhaps indefensibly about resources and less about freedom and prosperity. However, I doubt the figures are accurate. If all Libyans were getting a couple of thousand US$ a month that is nearly $150 Billion a year. Even the house of Saud cannot afford that kind of generosity.
I personally know of Libyans who did not benefit from Muammar's largesse. He and his sons showered "gifts" upon those who knelt to his majesty. More important for you he undermined your nation by banishing/exporting the more nettlesome islamists to the ****** and then had his intelligence\diplomats keep an eye on them. He also funded some of your own islamists.
>>Let me handicap the take away lesson. If some of Pakistani islamists (lets call them Beardos) are getting millions of oil money from muammar, they do not have to listen to your ISI. Then they can formulate independent strategies in the ******. At times those would be diametrically opposite to your national stategies.
When that happens; you lose control over your own instruments you lose face as a nation i.e. no one takes you seriously.
One more thing, there is a very big difference between Karzai and your First Minister. Yours represents a true & real political force (party) represented throughout your great nation. And he was elected by a majority of your own people in a fair election.
Cheers.
