After 47 years, a murder case was filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station in the capital on Wednesday night in connection with the killing of Colonel Khandkar Nazmul Huda Bir Bikrom.

Nahid Izhar Khan, MP, daughter of late Col Khandkar Nazmul Huda, filed the case accusing Major (retd) Abdul Jalil of then 10 East Bengal Regiment and 20-25 unidentified people.

She also mentioned the name of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman as the mastermind for giving order to kill him in her First Information Report (FIR).

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station Utpal Kumar Barua told reporters that Colonel Nazmul Huda's daughter filed the case as a plaintiff. In the FIR, she alleged that on the orders of Ziaur Rahman, three army officers including Col Khandkar Nazmul Huda Bir Bikrom were killed. Retired Major Abdul Jalil along with 25 unnamed people has been named as accused in the case, the OC said.

“We are investigating into the allegation of the case,” the OC added.

According to the FIR, the plaintiff mentioned that she was only 5 and her elder brother was 8, on 7 November 1975, when her father was killed by the members of the Bangladesh Army in the compound of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka while serving as Commander of 72 Special Brigade of the Bangladesh Army in Rangpur.

Two sector commanders-- Major General Khaled Mosharraf Bir-Uttam and Lt Col ATM Haider Bir-Uttam—were also killed during the incident, she said.


On 26 March 1971, Col Nazmul Huda joined the liberation war and directly participated in the liberation war. He was the Boyra sub-sector commander under Sector 8 of Jashore. Pakistan Army was defeated in the famous Tank Battle of Garibpur, Battle of Chowagacha under his direct command.

Jashore became the first district of Bangladesh to be liberated under the leadership of Col Nazmul Huda on 6th December in 1971.

Police have opened an investigation into the killings of Major General Khaled Mosharraf and two other freedom fighters, 48 years after their deaths, in a historically fraught episode that ties the late BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.

Ruling party MP Naheed Ezaher Khan, the daughter of Colonel Khandekar Najmul Huda who was killed along with Khaled Mosharraf and another freedom fighter, has filed a case over the incident that occurred amid a flurry of coups and counter-coups after the assassination of Bangladesh’s first president, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in 1975.

The case was filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on Wednesday night, Azimul Haque, a deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said on Thursday.

The third army officer killed in the incident was Lieutenant Col ATM Haider. All three were decorated freedom fighters. Khaled was the commander of Sector 2 during the 1971 Liberation War. Najmul was working as the commander of the army’s 72 Brigade at the time of the murder.

Naheed alleged in the case that a group of 20-25 rogue army officers killed her father, Khaled and Haider in the parliament building area on Nov 7, 1975 on orders from the then army chief Ziaur Rahman and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal leader Col Abu Taher.

She has named former Major Abdul Jalil of the 10 East Bengal Regiment in the case as he is the only person alive among those allegedly involved in the incident.

Bangladesh plunged into chaos after the massacre of Bangabandhu’s family on Aug 15, 1975, as Khandakar Mushtaque Ahmed took charge. Amid the turmoil, Khaled led a coup after the killings of four national leaders in jail on Nov 3. Zia was put under house arrest at the time.

Col Taher, who left the army, headed a counter-coup on Nov 7. Zia was then freed, while Khaled and his associates were killed.

The BNP, founded by Zia, observes Nov 7 as “Revolution and Solidarity Day”. Taher’s party observes it as “Sepoy-People’s Uprising Day” while the Awami League calls it “Freedom Fighter and Soldier Killing Day”.

Zia, who ascended to the position as a de-facto leader as a result of the conspiracy over the killing of Bangabandhu and took over the presidency in 1977, was assassinated in 1981 in Chattogram in a coup by some of his colleagues in the army.

The families of Khaled, Najmul and Haider had long been demanding justice for them.

HT Imam, the late adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said in 2017 that the trial of the killers was still possible after so many years.

The Khaled Musharraf group staged a coup on 3rd Nov. 1975 and arrested the Army Chief of Staff, Ziaur Rahman. BA troops rebelled and released Zia. In an encounter near Savar (probably) the trio (?) were killed by the military. Now U know it was somrwhrr near the Parliamrnt bldg.

In between 3rd and 7th November, the mother and brother of Khaled Musharraf staged a demonstration in favor of the BAL party.

So, how can Zia be a murderor of Khalid or his team when trrr wrrr coups and counter-coups? They were killed in an encounter with the BA troops when he was fleeing?

Bloody Hasina Bibi is behind this plot of defaming Zia. The only good thing is she now knows that she will have to organize a fair election.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Col (retd) Oli Ahmed on Friday protested the filing of a case against BNP founder Ziaur Rahman for the murder of Col Khondkar Nazmul Huda Bir Bikram 48 years back.

“Ziaur Rahman had no scope to know who killed Nazmul Huda as was held captive at that time. Ziaur Rahman was not involved in this murder in any way,” he said.

Speaking at a press conference at his party’s Tejgaon office, Oli alleged that the case was filed as part of a ploy to confuse people.

"The case was filed as part of a well-thought-out plan to divert people's attention to a different direction ahead of the election. We would like to ask them not to resort to lies," the former BNP minister said.

Earlier on Thursday, Col Khondkar Nazmul Huda Bir Bikram’s daughter Naheed Izaher Khan filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in Dhaka over the killing of her father on November 7, 1975.

In the case, Naheed made Maj (retd) Abdul Jalil of the 10th East Bengal Regiment accused and claimed that the killing was carried out as per Ziaur Rahman's instruction.

Oli, also a freedom fighter and a Bir Bikram, questioned the motive behind filing of the case 48 years after the incident.

"I would like to tell her (Naheed) mother you didn’t do a good job by filing the case after such a long time ahead of the election. Martyr President Ziaur Rahman was in no way involved in it,” he said.

He said Col Khondkar Nazmul Huda’s wife could have filed the case many times earlier during Ershads rule or Awami League’s rule in 1996.

“This case was filed now to mislead the nation by creating a smoke screen ahead of the election. But The nation won’t be confused as they have set a goal to get rid of the current intolerable situation, stop corruption and all tyranny, and ensure basic human rights,” the LDP chief observed.

Oli said their party wants the assurance of a free and fair election. "We are not against the Prime Minister or against Awami League and any party. We only want to freely cast our votes in the election and no gunmen will be there in the polling station and no one will take away our votes at night.”

Earlier in the day, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged Col Huda's daughter filed a case against their party founder Ziaur Rahman on the charge of killing three army officers in 1975 at the behest of the government to confuse people.

“The case has been filed as per the instruction of the Prime Minister. As Sheikh Hasina and her government are now in deep trouble, they want to confuse people,” he said.

Rizvi said Colonel Huda's daughter did not read the book written by her mother Nilufar Huda titled “The War of Colonel Huda and Me” before filing the case.

In her book, the BNP leader said Nilufar Huda mentioned that Ziaur Rahmann ordered Colonel Nawazish to ensure the safety of Khaleda Musharraf and Colonel Huda. “She (Naheed) filed the case on Sheikh Hasina's order.”

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday alleged that the filing of a case involving Ziaur Rahman in the killing of three freedom fighter army officers, including Col Khondkar Nazmul Huda Bir Bikram, in November, 1975 is part of a "far-reaching political conspiracy of the government".

“A complete omnipresent lie was brought to the fore again after 48 years. It’s totally intentional. The only purpose behind it is to mislead people when they (people) have started taking to the streets to restore their democratic rights,” he said.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office, Fakhrul said the case was filed also to confuse people as there is a strong national and international pressure on the government to hold the next election under an impartial government.”

"An attempt is being made to mislead the nation by raising such a falsehood and a 48-year-old issue. They (govt) have a far-reaching political conspiracy behind this. This is part of their plot,” he observed.

Protesting the filing of the case against their party founder, Fakhrul said Naheed, an MP of the current parliament formed through the night-time rigged voting and a beneficiary of the current ‘fascist‘ government led by Sheikh Hasina, may not have read the book written by her own mother Nilufar Huda about the incident happened on November 7, 1975.

In her book titled “The War of Colonel Huda and Me”, he said Nilufar Huda clearly mentioned that Ziaur Rahmann ordered Colonel Nawazish that day to protect Khaleda Musharraf, Col Nazmul Al-Huda and Major ATM Haider.

On page no. 134 of the book written by Nilufar Huda, the BNP leader said the involvement of Colonel Taher (Abu Taher) behind the killing (of three army officers) was described in clear language.

“It was also revealed (in the book) that JSD Ganobahini circulated among the members of the army that Col Huda and others were Indian spies as per the instruction of Col Taher, four days before the killing incident. “Major General Amin Ahmed Chowdhury also wrote the same in the introduction to the book,” he said.

Fakhrul bemoaned the cruel irony of history is that Col Huda's daughter Naheed is raising her voice in the same tune with her father's ‘killers’ JSD- Ganobahini deputy chief Hasanul Haque Inu and Colonel Taher's brother Waresat Hossain Belal as MPs of a Parliament.

“She made Ziaur Rahman accused of ordering the killing of her father, who actually had given the order to save her father… In fact, Naheed Izaher Khan has filed a case against martyred President Ziaur Rahman mentioning him as order giver for her father's killing as she was used as a pawn of the fascist Awami quarter,” he observed.

The BNP leader alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her cohorts are continuing various conspiracies to divert the anti-fascist movement in a different direction. “This case is just a disgusting example of that conspiracy.”

He warned the party rank and file that such plots by the government will continue in the future. “We would like to say that we’ll foil all the plots together with people by establishing a non-partisan caretaker government ousting fascist regime.”

Hasina now wants Zia’s skeletone to be pulled out of his grave and hanged. But, only last year this Bitch of a woman was claiming there is no human skeleton there and it is of a dog.
