Cocaine overdose caused Samia’s death’
November 30, 2016
LAHORE - Forensic investigation has revealed the PML-N worker, Samia Chaudhry, died after taking narcotics including morphine and cocaine in excessive quantity.
Punjab forensic science agency yesterday submitted its reports to the Lahore police investigators. A senior police officer confirmed the development to The Nation stating the lady died “because of taking narcotics in excessive quantity”.
“One thing has been established that excessive use of narcotics led to her death. We have received her forensic report,” the officer said. “Obviously, her cause of death was drugs usage as she was addicted to morphine and cocaine.”
The officer, who requested anonymity, further said PML-N MNA Ashraf Chaudhry would also be investigated in connection with the killing and the availability of drugs in his official room. “We will question the old man what was going there (Chamba House),” the officer said while referring to the parliamentarian who is in his late 60s.
Samia, a 38-year-old political worker, was found dead from a government-run hostel located in the Race Course police precincts on Saturday night. According to police investigators, her nose was bleeding with foams coming out her mouth as they entered the room. Initial investigations suggest there were no torture marks on her body.
The lady was staying at the room (No 26) allotted to PML-N MNA Chaudhry Ashraf for the last several weeks, a police source said. Earlier, the parliamentarian told a TV channel that Samia was not his relative. He said that she wanted to become a member of the National Assembly on special seats. On the other hand, Asif Mahmood claimed that his wife was a relative of MNA Chaudhry Ashraf.
Resident of Sahiwal district and mother of three, Samia was an active political worker. On November 20, she left for Shorkot in a car along with several PML-N workers to attend a political rally. She stayed at the hostel from on November 22 to 26.
A police investigator said that the hostel administration came to know about the incident some 24 hours after she expired in the room.
Her husband said that he talked to Samia last time on Nov 24. Two days later, he was informed by the administrator of the Chamba House that his wife was found dead in the room.
According to doctors, who performed her autopsy, the lady took some liquid that led to death. A female political worker, who witnessed her body before the postmortem, told reporters on Sunday that it seemed that she was poisoned to death.
The police had registered a murder case under section 302 of the PPC against “unidentified men” on the complaint of Asif Mahmood, husband of the deceased. The police took into custody at least 10 employees of the Chamba House and collected all record of the hostel.
Police investigators and forensic experts also visited the crime scene and collected evidence. Doctors yesterday sent some samples of her body to the Punjab forensic science agency to ascertain the cause of death. The agency sent back the forensic report to the police within a few days since it was related to a high-profile case. Normally, the agency takes at least two to three weeks to complete investigations related to rape or homicide cases.
Police officer Ali Raza said that they were investigating the death keeping in view different aspects. He said the police were in touch with the administration of the hostel to get CCTV footage in order to know who had visited the lady in the hostel room on that night.
On that night, police sources said, the waiters served food to at least three persons in that room.
Samia Chaudhry’s husband Asif Mahmood is said to be an employee of the Federal Board of Revenue. The couple had married some 19 years ago, according to the first information report (FIR).
