Cobra VS Hind

for CAS:Mi-24/5/35

for true anti-tank role:AH-1

both can do the others work just as good, but not meant to do so(at least, not when they were designed)

i like how both designer made these chopper.both derived from transport helos.(AH-1 is from UH-1,Mi-24 is from Mi-8)

. . . .
Maybe if the Cobras were Super Cobras. Unfortunately they are really old and not upgraded as yet in the face of recently upgraded Mi35's. Just my 2 cents.

so that's why you want say that it tooks only two months for pak army using cobras to flush out militants out of swat
and russians with 100s of mi-24 were still unable to hold on their control over afghanistan

Are you saying that the situation in SWAT is as bad as Afghanistan in 1980? If the CIA bankrolls and distributes Stingers to a million fighters in SWAT, you will know the effectiveness of 20 Cobras. Sorry to be a bit blunt, no offence meant.

The thread is Cobras Vs Hind. The fully upgraded Super Cobra is a match or maybe even better than a fully upgraded hind. However if it were not so then why would anybody spend money on upgrading anything if it is the same as what it was 20 years ago? India has also issued RFP's for a further 40 attack choppers to fight alongside its Hinds. We may see Apache's by 2012.

yes i agree mi-24 have huge payloads as compare to cobras but cobras agility makes much more swift and agile as compare to hind....and remember cobra agility and counter measures can makes it less valunerable to manpads then as compare to hind
and by the way ttp are also using anti-aircraft guns and rocket launchers to target cobras

i dont agree with this statement ...its utterly baseless atleast for the russian helo

Thanks for your view. My basic argument was not whether the cobra is agile or not, it definitely is, more than the Hind. However they have not been upgraded in the last 20 years. I'm sure there have been various advances in avionics/ radar/ weapons, etc which the PAF Cobras may not be able to take advantage of.

Are the TTP using Rocket Launchers at helicopters?? I'm sure they aren't using Stingers! Before the Mujahideen in Afghanistan in 1980 were provided with Stingers, they would run away at the sound of a Mi24.

Also in wikipedia, it says that the PA has ordered 18 Eurocopter Tigers. Is that true? Any news on that?

Two differnt types of gunship
ones a carrier, the other is agile attack gunship (as compared to the apache).

And who are they well

the Hind is the agile cus it can hover just about side ways
and the cobra is the carrier because it carries missiles.
:D

OK enough with the rubbish jokes ,
like i said these have two different fuctionality
I wouldn't called the Hind a a peice of junk the idea to carry troops into battle via air as well as giving supressive air support is genious
and its shape makes it better than the Bell Huey (See Vietnam war with the US) to engage in such combat. It has a thiner front silhouette compare to the Huey making it an easy frontal attack.
If the movibilty could improve this would make it a devastating airbourne assault troop carrier.
I think we can say for sure a combination of both Cobra and Hind
will make very effective and devastating strike force.

tiger deal can't occur because even a single piece is two times more expensive than a single piece of jf-17 thunder
at the start of war on terror US has supplied pakistan more advance batch of 14 AH-1F cobras these cobras are actually quite smarter then old cobras in comparision

.
i think cobra is not easy to hit and hind is very thick armoured
