COAS vows to take war on terror to logical conclusion

I wish him best of luck but a logical conclusion is a far cry right now. With extremism which breeds the ideology leading to the creation of militants group is pretty much intact and inseparable. Unless, military and civil government don't establish their long lost writ on declaring Jihad and the religious institutions are not altered to cooperate on this, there's not much light at the end of the tunnel. Despite reduction in terror incident, Pakistan continues to become a mini jail with barriers, pass through gates, barbed wires continue to pop up every here and there. Peace is still a long journey.

He knows exactly what he is talking about and he also knows how to dismantle this remaining infrastructure of terrorism. These so-called terrorists are totally supported by politicians and so called rich liberals who get their paycheques directly from terrorist agencies of our enemies. Thus to eliminate the remaining vermin, he has to take down this nexus and that is EXACTLY what he is talking.....and he is taking forward the operation started by Gen. Raheel Shareef ...

Now that's an interesting choice for Corps Commander. An officer with most part of service spent in non-combat acitivities (111,Preisent's Mil Sec, ISPR). Gen Rizwan, on the other hand, is ideal candidate for next COAS, looking at his professionalism,

Rizwan Aslam and Naveed Mukhtar both retiring in October 2018. No chance of them becoming COAS.

Its a fact that GRS has set the bar of performance to a new higher level so much so that many coming CoAS will be compared with GRS with respect to their performances. GRS has done everything in a manner in which they should have been done, no beating about the bush nor dragging the feet. In true manner, he has taken the morale of troops and nation sky high. We are so addicted to General Raheel that the statement of other Generals don't feel like as important as his.

I don't know if its just me or my sheer respect for the retired General that my heart is still awaiting for his clarification to stamp the intentions expressed by General Bajwa.

Yeah will take some time and I do hope General Bajwa will outperform Raheel and annihilate this menance of terrorism from the Land of the pure for once and for all

That's very true. Whenever I hear in news COAS Qamar Bajwa, it sounds unconnected. In past three years, we heard of Army Chief Raheel Sharif everywhere on social media, electronic media, print media and everywhere.

But I think people need to support new COAS in same way. This will boost up his morale.

When Gen Raheel came the militant groups were in abundance, thanks to inaction of his predecessors (Musharraf and Kayani), he had the freedom and chose those groups to handle first, who had the least implications for national security and largely were what we call "dispensables". With most of those groups now gone or weak, the next in line are the ones with higher implications. This is the challenge that stands against Bajwa I.e. ge will have to take tougher decisions than GRS.

The logical conclusion of the war of terror is to take the fight into Afghanistan, the source of evil that is causing havoc and mayhem in Pakistan. As a start, we need to start providing credible, undeniable intelligence to the Afghan government informing them of the hideouts of militants that are attacking us. In case of inaction, the next step is an open season of unilateral drone strikes. This needs to be conducted mercilessly and ruthlessly. And in order to clear up any last traces, we might need boots on the ground in the form of special forces.

Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa: commissioned in the 34 Punjab Regiment in 1984.

Graduate of the Command & Staff College(Quetta), NDU(Islamabad) & Staff College,Camberley(UK).
Masters in Defence Studies from Kings College London(UK) & War Studies from NDU(Islamabad).

He has commanded an Anti-Tank Battalion, an Infantry Brigade Group and a Infantry Strike Division.
Also served as Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade and Chief of Staff of a Strike Corps.

He has also been on the faculty of PMA Kakul & Command and Staff College Quetta.
Also served as Deputy Military Secretary to President of Pakistan.
Promoted to Major General in December 2010.

He is recipient of Tamgha-i-Basalat and Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military).

Don't underestimate a previous commander of a Strike Division & CoS of a Strike Corps just because he was posted to Media Wing of Army. To me he is an ideal candidate for a Corps Commander.

Fully agree to the fact that Zarb-e-Azb now demands similar bold actions (as were taken by GRS against terrorists) against the supporters of terrorists in Parliament and media houses. This challenge is no less critical as starting Zarb-e-Azb against terrorists. Only difference is now the operation must be conducted against those sitting in power houses and working against integrity of Pakistan. I am sincerely hoping that GQB will match or exceed GRS in eradicating the supporters of terrorism menace from Pakistan. Let time be the judge.

Not possible Sir g, Gen Rizwan is gonna retire in 2018 whereas current COAS will complete his tenure in 2019 November....Only couple of army Generals will remain in service after end of 2019. The next promotion of Corp commanders by current COAS will bring new leadership and one of them will be the new COAS at the end of 2019.
