COAS, US CENTCOM chief discuss regional security

RAWALPINDI: Commander US CENTCOM General Llyod Austin called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Shairf on Wednesday at the General Headquarters.

During the meeting matters of mutual interest and regional security were discussed.

General Austin acknowledged sacrifices rendered by the Pakistan Army and its efforts in the war on terror for bringing peace in Pakistan and the region.

Upon his arrival at GHQ, General Austin paid homage to Pakistan’s martyrs and laid a floral wreath at the martyrs’ memorial.

After taking over as the COAS last year,Raheel Sharif had overseen Zarb e Arab, which was a long-pending US demand. US wanted Pak to take action against the Haqqani network after an American soldier was kidnapped by them and 4-5 Talibans were released from Guantanamo bay prison.
Pakistan had to then prove it to the Americans, through Zarb e Azab, that it doesn't differentiate between the terrorists. This helped Pakistan develop positive vibe with US again.
Pakistani army has another big concern, which is to ensure the continuation of the CSF( Coalition Support Fund), which I heard was reduced recently.
So now you know the possible reason behind this visit.
