COAS stresses need to integrate private sector in defence production

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday stressed upon the need for enhanced public-private partnership to turn Pakistan defence industry into a vibrant, self-reliant and self-sustained entity.

Addressing a two-day national seminar titled “Defence Production – Security through Self Reliance”, held at Army Auditorium in Rawalpindi on July 18-19, he said that apart from public sector and defence production organisations, there is a dire need for a fully integrated private sector in the country’s defence industry.

The army chief thanked participants for giving time to an important issue concerning national security, said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). “There is a need to amplify indigenisation through fully integrated public and private organisations in defence production for meaningful progression in defence of the country,” the COAS was quoted by the military’s media wing as saying.

The seminar was aimed at paving way for self-reliance by exploring indigenous defence production potential, identifying organisational and institutional challenges of defence industry, pragmatic solutions to optimise defence production and recommending policy level measures to have fully immersed private sector in defence production.

Members from different ministries, public and private organisations, chamber of commerce and industries, defence production establishments and members from academia attended the seminar.

Representatives from public sector discussed and suggested way forward for public private partnership in defence production.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Defence Production Zobaida Jalal and Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudry shared their views and suggestions for development of Pakistan defence industry into a prolific entity.

Representatives from private sectors shared a roadmap for enhancing public-private partnership in the defence production.

PM’s adviser on commerce Abdul Razak Dawood enlightened the participants on importance of independent defence industry for national security.

The two-day-long seminar concluded with policy level recommendations for the government. Major recommendations included establishment of a task force under Prime Minister Imran Khan for a roadmap to facilitating indigenous defence production, establishing raw material industry, incorporating private sector for raw material base so as to optimally utilise public sector capacity for indigenous defence production, surplus defence potential for export, establishing “Digital Parks” to tap software industry potential and promoting research and development in universities.

I think you are being too generous, considering Rupee devaluation I'd say $3k would be enough to spill all the beans.

I guess you have been never into any such business,corporate firms involved in security dealing have more tighter security then you think,it's matter of homeland security,repute & profit for them.All people who are working at such places and projects do have SC and they are kept under watch by Govt.
No one in Pakistan has price tag on forehead.

Private sector is not mature enough and this type of model works in country with long history of democracy like u.s but in Pakistan private investors fear that military establishment may confiscate their investment at anytime due to trend of excessive use of power by army and there was history of fraud in schemes like dha and royal palm railway scam in musharaf tenure in which army officers were involved so we should follow chinese model of defense production as we have not adopted u.s model of democracy in our history and our institutions are not independent and mature like in u.s

Well after every cabinet meeting every policy comes out in public within hours, sold for few dollars or few favors by our ministers, which runs on all TV channels (by Pakistani anchors) not considering it will harm the country. Pakistani ambassadors starts working for foreign countries for few dollars or a green card. Cricket players sham the country for few dollars. Every illegal Pakistan asylum seeker will either become Qadyani or spread lies about the country so they can stay. There are more NGOs working in Pakistan than any other country staffed by Pakistanis working against the country for foreign funds..I can keep going and going till sun comes out....But I agree with you Her Banda bika hua nehe hay, kutch ko abhi chance ne mila

Stop implementation of Law in any state and that would happen.

That is a point but one can give non sensitive work. Without private sector US or iWest would not be here where they are today. Take the time and work slowly towards the integration of private sector.
