COAS receives latest weapons from POF

WAH CANTONMENT, Apr 12 (APP): Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, received the first lot of 155 millli meter, Base Bleed (BB) Dual Purpose Improvised Conventional Munitions (DPICM) Ammunition from Chairman Pakistan Ordnance Factory Board, Lieutenant General Syed Sabahat Hussain in an impressive ceremony held at Pakistan Ordnance Factory on Saturday.

The ceremony was attended by high ranking military officers, ambassador of South Korea Shin Un, Chairman POONGSAN Jin Roy Ryu.

DPICM Ammunition is state of the art ammunition which Pakistan Ordnance Factory has successfully produced through a joint venture with Korean firm M/S POONGSAN.

Chief of Army Staff lauded the services of Pakistan Ordnance Factory towards strengthening national defence.

Earlier, Chairman Pakistan Ordnance Factory informed the audience that Pakistan Ordnance Factory has embarked upon a technology driven road map to provide latest arms and ammunition to Pakistan Armed Forces and DPICM joint venture was the first milestone, he said many more projects are also underway.

Chief of Army Staff gave away prizes to Korean engineers and Pakistan Ordnance Factory team, who made the project a success.

155mm: Max ranges: M109 and M198-17, 740 meters.

DPICM, M483A1: (Slide #62)Delivers 88 dual-purpose anti-material and anti-personnel grenades - the M42 (qua. 64) and M46 (qua. 24). The M46s are located at the base of the projectile and are heavier and thicker than the M42s to withstand the shock of firing and set back. The submissions have a shaped charge warhead that penetrates 2.75 inches of homogeneous armor. Antipersonnel effects are obtained by fragmentation of the submission body. SHOW THE STUDENTS one of these submunitions. This projectile introduces a different family of projectiles, the ICM Family. The ICM family is approximately 3 1/2 inches longer and has a standard square weight of 103.5 lbs. This projectile has a self-registration mode with projectile spotting charge M1025. Can anyone tell what is so nice about this ammunition?

To be more precise, it has similar capabilities as a cluster bomb but can be delivered by Artillery. Very effective in holding off enemy advances (armour and/or personnel).

A Dual-Purpose Improved Conventional Munitions (DPICM) is an artillery or surface-to-surface missile warhead designed to burst into sub-munitions at an optimum altitude and distance from the desired target for dense area coverage. The sub-munitions are designed for both antiarmor and antipersonnel attack. Some sub-munitions may be designed for delayed reaction or mobility denial (mines). The air-to-surface variety of this kind of munition is better known as a Cluster Bomb.

KARACHI, Nov 24 Asia Pulse - The Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) and South Korean firm Poongsan (KSE:005810) on Wednesday signed an agreement for the co-production of 155mm base bleed DPICM K-310 artillery ammunition.

The accord was signed at the International Defence Exhibition eIDEAS-2006i at the Expo Centre, Karachi.
