The optics of these security meetings have changed ever since IK came into power.
Look at the seating arrangement. The PM - chief executive of the country - sits at the head of the table with the heads of the two arms of the security apparatus, the armed forces and the intelligence on his left and right. The telephone sits at the PM's side.
This reflects that a civilian is in charge. Sets a great precedent.
Also, just a thought, the office of the COAS has outgrown its original limit. We need a centralized military command structure with a Chief of Defence Staff.
The CDS can then serve as the overall commander of the three services and the chief military advisor to the PM. The COAS office must be cut to size. This asymmetry between the three services is damaging.
