WASHINGTON — A plane chartered by an American-led military coalition that was flying through Iranian airspace landed unexpectedly in Iran on Friday, but the Obama administration said it was a bureaucratic issue that should be settled soon and was not a larger political incident between two countries with a history of hostility.

“This is nothing to get alarmed over,” said an administration official, who insisted on anonymity to discuss a delicate diplomatic situation. “This is a bureaucratic problem with the flight plan, and it’s going to be resolved shortly. This is not a political statement.”

The plane, a civilian Fly Dubai aircraft chartered by the International Security Assistance Force that operates in Afghanistan, was flying from Bagram Air Base north of Kabul to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates when it was rerouted to the coastal Iranian city of Bandar Abbas.

American officials said it was not forced down by the Iranian military, but it is unclear whether it was escorted by Iranian warplanes.

“The issue appears to have been resolved,” an administration official said late Friday afternoon, “and hopefully the plane will be able to take off soon.”

US-Chartered Plane en route to Dubai Lands in Iran
September 06, 2014
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A commercial aircraft chartered by the US-led military coalition en route from the Afghan city of Bagram to the Persian Gulf city of Dubai landed in Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas on Friday, an informed Iranian source confirmed.

The airport official confirmed that the plane had landed at Bandar Abbas International Airport, but did not provide further information, Press TV reported.

The chartered aircraft, carrying about 100 Americans from the US airbase at Bagram landed safely in Dubai after being diverted to Iran because of issues with its flight plan, Reuters quoted the US State Department as saying on Friday.

The Fly Dubai plane took off earlier from Iran’s Bandar Abbas after being rerouted there. A US official said the plane had failed to update its flight plan after leaving Bagram for Dubai several hours late.

When Iranian civil aviation officials identified the plane, they could not find it in their system because it was supposed to have flown through hours earlier, the official said.

Iranian officials first asked it to turn around and then to land at Bandar Abbas when told it did not have enough fuel to return to Afghanistan, the US official said.

In a statement saying the plane had landed in Dubai, State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said that contrary to some media reports, "No Iranian jets were scrambled in this situation.”

"We appreciate the efforts of all parties to help the passengers get safely to their destination," she added.

We should have asked money from the Americans when the plane was too land.

Seriously, why not allow the Americans use our airspace and allowance to land in return for some heavy money :D

Iran: Paperwork, expenses caused plane diversion - Yahoo News
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iran ordered a commercial aircraft chartered by the U.S.-led military coalition in Afghanistan to land in the Islamic Republic so it could pay expenses and complete paperwork, an official there said Saturday.

"The plane was ordered to land in order to pay related expenses and doing paperwork to continue its flight," the semi-official Fars news agency quoted Haghighatpour as saying. "Americans should know that Iran strongly defends its territory in land, sea and air. They should observe international measures in this regards. Otherwise they will face such an attitude."
