ISLAMABAD:
A 1,320-megawatt coal-fired power project being developed in Sahiwal will start producing energy by the end of 2017, Water and Power Secretary Younus Dagha said.
Talking to a news channel, he said this was one of the mega energy projects which would help to resolve energy crisis in the country.
He said the government was setting new traditions by completing mega development projects speedily. On his visit to Sahiwal, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif also appreciated the pace of on-going work on the project.
Dagha said the coal-fuelled power project was being constructed near Qadirabad over an area of 1,001 acres and 35% work had been completed.
“The deadline of the project is December 25, 2017 and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is committed to completing work in the set time frame.” To a question, he replied that nothing could be fixed without tackling the energy crisis and the government was serious in that regard.
