Clocks reversed by an hour in Pakistan

Saturday, October 31, 2009

KARACHI: Pakistani clocks have been rewound to 11pm when they stroke 12am on Saturday, Geo news reported.

Pakistan standard time has been changed, as the clocks have been reversed by an hour on Saturday, the eve of November 1 all over Pakistan.

The people of Pakistan have expressed aggravation upon changing of the standard time twice a year and are annoyed by continuous electricity loadshedding.

The clocks were reversed by an hour at the midnight of October 31, this way the clock stroke 12 am twice a day.

The government announced to set clocks an hour ahead for daylight saving drive on 15 April 2009 in order to save the electricity by consuming daylight hours for work instead of generated electricity.

The citizens feel aggravated on setting clocks by an hour ahead or an hour reversed, as confusion sets in among the masses.

They said that day light saving drive is an illogical and unwise government decision, they said that they have to suffer long hours of unannounced power outages in cool weather despite paying electricity bills on time.

The KESC has stated that setting clocks an hour ahead and using daylight for electricity saves approximately 140-150 megawatts per day; however subscribers do not sense this power saving.

The subscribers have declared the daylight saving move futile as after enduring long power outages in summers, they are suffering long hours of continuous electricity load shedding in winters also.

What's the point of this whole operation. changing timings in tropical countires where there is not much difference in when it becomes dark - either in winter or summer.
Its not like in cold countries say for eg. UK - In summer sun raises at say about 5 AM and sets at 10 - 10.30 PM.
In winter sun raises at about 7.30 and completely dark in peak winter by 3.3o pm.

What's the point with pakistan changing timings ??

Haha, that's exactly how people start reacting! But it'll stay for a while and then we'll get used to it. ;)

Yes, we do. We are entitled to daylight as much as anyone else in the world. Aren't we?

Yes - no one is denying pakistan's right to change the time as she pleases.

Could you enlighten us - What this is going to achieve or atleast the purpose of it.

or Is this another half-boiled ideas from one of the brilliant ministers ?

The daylight savings in Pakistan is not something new. If only you would've read the article, you wouldn't have asked that silly question.

 good one!
I didn't know Pakistan had that. It doesn't get dark there by 4-5pm like here in US? I know it doesn't in N. India. Anyways, if it saves energy then it has to be good.

.
Pros:
It saves energy
It makes us got to bed early and get up early
Since small business owners and self employed go to their work at old timing, less traffic on road for school and office going people.
Cons:
People think of it as problem.
They dislike getting up early

Did it was usefull to the benefits of Pakistan!!! I dont think so!!!!!!!
