I agree with everyone that it's over. This is just like how Vietnam ended. They are setting up the ground work for a dignified retreat. Once the Americans pull out, the Karzai government won't last one year. This war was for nothing, just like Vietnam.
Do you think that this, combined with a recession, will end the US as a nation-state the way it ended the Soviet Union?
Both attacked Afghanistan.
Both withdrew after about 10 years.
Both withdew during a recession.
Internal unrest was important in both.
US people mistrust government more and more, same way in USSR.
Both are militarily overstretched, heavily indebted, dependent on foreign imports.
