Would it not be better to have an integrated air defence? Just asking.
How does it work anyways at the moment between Army AD and Airforce AD? What are the areas of responsibility for each? Where do all the respective assets fit in?
I know this is a pretty wide scope of discussion. Not sure if there is another thread more suitable for that. However it is something I have often wondered about... How do they do it in other countries? Say perhaps in India, Iran, China etc.?
We do have a completely integrated AD network with PAF and Army having separate assets. Even though there is a complete Army AD command but technically it operates with the PAF, which maintains an overarching role and remains primarily responsible for coordinating any AD actions.Would it not be better to have an integrated air defence? Just asking.

just like AIM-120 & ASPIDE & SPADA are all Sparrow , similarly HERZ-9 , Ya Zahra 1/2/3 & Crotale NG are all Crotale mindset of some people is something elseFM-90 !
AIM-120 is different from AIM-7 Sparrow family. Aspide (Italian) & SkyFlash (British) are versions of AIM-7.just like AIM-120 & ASPIDE & SPADA are all Sparrow , similarly HERZ-9 , Ya Zahra 1/2/3 & Crotale NG are all Crotale mindset of some people is something else
The area of responsibility is defined by height and area. Army is responsible for air defense up to a certain altitude and the Air Force above that. Plus Air Force has primary air defense responsibility around its bases. However, with induction of more long range SAMs with the Army this delineation might have become fuzzy but I am sure it is well defined. Army and Navy nodes feed into air force’s integrated air defense. We do have a completely integrated AD network with PAF and Army having separate assets. The vintage Bofor type AA guns have been automated and linked with direction and laser range finders i.e. the gun will automatically point towards the direction the finder is pointed at. These old guns have some advantages as they are safe from ECM. During the Iraq war such guns were the most effective against NATO aircraft. All AA guns need to b phased out accept radar guided ones.
