Anonymous hacked the CIA

The official website for the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States cia.gov became the latest victim in a series of attacks conducted by the elusive hackers group Anonymous.

*At approximately 3.10 p.m. Eastern time one of twitter accounts related to the hackers' group announced "cia.gov DOWN. #UMAD?#Anonymous"

As RT reported earlier, the online cooperative Anonymous took credit for crashing in the past few weeks the websites of the US Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Although the reason for the attack has not been confirmed there is much speculation on the motive behind the CIA’s site going offline.

In last week’s FuckFBIFriday campaign the online group also released the audio of a conference call between the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and Britain’s Scotland Yard counterpart.

As of the release of this report, no other sites have been targeted.

It's really easy to do a DDoS attack as long as you enough volunteers (or unsuspecting computers that you've hijacked). It's dramatically harder to actually break into the CIA analysts' computers and steal data.
