Two days have passed since Javed Williams and his co-workers received a call that turned their lives upside down. The Gawahi news channel building, along with their livelihood and hopes, had been burnt to ashes.

“How could anyone do this? I saw with my tears-filled eyes the Holy Bible’s pages blackened by the fire. How could their heart allow them to set ablaze this truth?” asks one of the workers of Gawahi Channel, resentment audible in his voice.

Gawahi TV, operated by the Gawahi Mission Trust had three ‘sacred’ goals — education, rehabilitation and community development, shared a volunteer who wished to remain anonymous.

Located near the Saint Peter’s Church in the Akhtar Colony area, which is inhabited by various religious communities, the vicinity’s population comprises of around 90% of Muslims and 10% minorities.

“There have never been problems amongst residents of the area, who belong to different schools of thought. We never had any direct threat either,” the volunteer says.

Williams, meanwhile, refuses to believe the police, which states that the fire due to an electric short-circuit.

Williams and his brother Sarfraz, who head the trust, had invested immense resources to make their dream of running a Christian TV channel a reality.

After the fire, which lasted almost half-an-hour, destroyed almost everything, including a Mac computer, DVDs, editing equipment, books, and records of their donors.

Around 15,000 booklets that were published by the trust titled “The Christ’s hope” were also destroyed in the fire.

Interestingly, the fire only seemed to touch valuable equipment and not the blankets, curtains, wooden structure inside the office. Further, the cameras used to shoot videos – which happen to be extremely pricey — were not found in the rubble, suggesting they had been stolen.

“They set ablaze the things we used to spread our message,” a worker said.

“If it was caused by short-circuit then who would break-cut the door’s lock?” another said, pointing towards the old-styled lock, commonly known as kundi, with its holder smartly cut to open the door.

Inside the three -room office lay another lock beside the rubble of burned material which the workers said they have not touched as forensic investigations are under way.

Williams shared that police investigations have started and the Mehmodabad Police Station House Officer Sarwar Commando had asked them not to touch anything as his team would start a forensic investigation soon.

“We have halted our mission for the time being but we will not let our hopes die down. We were doing our God’s work and will continue to do so with the divine help,” he said.

This is propaganda by western and paid media, they want to defame Pakistan.
I see RAW behind it, they are trying to spread intolerance bug in Pakistan, this way they can divert the global attention on communal issue away from India.

Pakistan has been always a peace loving country and minorities find it safest place on planet.
Incidence like this are carried out by external agents to destabilize society, I am sure Pakistanis will not allow the ill plans of RAW to get materialized. Soon a Dosier with proof will be shared to UN and USA in regard to same..

This suggests electrical fire rather than arson. If it had been arson, then the curtains, crapes and upholstery would have burnt and the computers would have been untouched.

It could still be arson and would be despicable if it is. I am no fire investigator. But, from where I am standing? Electrical fire.

It is clearly a arson
What about the expensive camera which was stolen, not found under the rubble.
What abut the door lock(kundi) which was broken by extremists or was it broken due to short circuit. the kundi was smartly cut to open the door

No, no you don't understand. The door lock was forced because of the "electrical fire". The sudden burst of electric current made the lock explode damaging the "kundi" in the process. Then arc's of light conveniently torched the bibles, without damaging any other part of the office.

It damaged quite a lot of the office as can be seen from the pictures. The damage seems confined to the area next to things which run on electricity, like the Computers.

(As for the fact that expensive equipment is missing often points to insurance fraud. Not saying that is the case here just that this whole thing needs to be investigated,)

Do you expect me to condone this just because I severely criticize India for its rights record.

I believe the channel must be good news tv. Thats the only Christian owned channel in Pakistan. WE should massacre the terrorists.

EditL: i was wrong. There seem to be other Christian organizations too than good news tv.

Looks like India and Pakistan are trying to settle the score here on mistreatment of their minorities too.
Such a reprehensible act. Down with religious bigotry, Down with intolerance.

I have known one incident where a religious person was involved in stealing gold made religious items and went out of country. The thing is the whole matter should be investigated, the cause of fire should be ascertained as it may not necessarily be act of TTP or any religious group as Karachi is hub of different groups ranging from religious to political, more or less most of them involved in criminal activities.
It may happen in the end that some crew member is involved there. We should not judge everything on assumptions and become culprit of spreading extremism our selves .

May be they were pretending to be Muslims and burning their bibles ?

I don't get your question may be a joke but consisting bitter truth which can be explained by following scenarios.

The people due to greed or hatred may sometimes lower them from humanity scale then they even don't regard their religion.
1) What is happening in Syria and Yemen is directly done by Iran and KSA both Muslim countries but have their own interests.
2.) Americans/French are Christians yet due to their brutal acts whole African continent is stuck in wars resulting in death and famine of hundreds of Christians.
