In line with details, there are reports that Christians who participated in protests on Monday 23rd of September, 2013 the All Saints Church suicide bombings were beaten by unknown men. These Christians are reported to be residents of Iqbal Town.
A Christian resident of Iqbal Town disclosed the story on condition of anonymity, claimed he was an eyewitness to the incident. He further said, Several men thrashed seven or eight Christian youths with batons outside the Unitarian Church in the neighbourhood.
The men had their faces covered. Some of the victims, including Pastor Safir, were missing, the resident maintained.
One more Christian resident of the area alleges police involvement in the incident. He further alleged,Police were trying to teach the Christian community a lesson for two consecutive days of protests on the Islamabad Highway.
He asserted that, The police had stationed a mobile van near the areas taxi stand and were nabbing any Christians that went nearby.
The neighbourhood of IqbalTown has a considerable Christian population wile the community has staged few strong protest rallies in the Capital; causing nuisance to the police over past couple of days.
On the other hand, the police officials at the Shehzad Town police station denied reports of any such incident saying, They had not received any reports about the thrashing incident. Furthermore, the police refuse the claims of some of the Christian residents of illegally detaining Christians. Nonetheless, the police officials said, Police personnel have been deployed at Iqbal Town because of the recent protests.
