In recent years, I have seen very good sci-fi, fantasy movies from the Chinese cinema industry. In these areas, they are long ahead of Bolywood. Although it is not in my area of interest, it is a fact that Bollywood has brought many works to world cinema too, especially in genres such as drama and romantic comedy.

Actually, India is ahead of everyone in the super Powa genre. As only India have produced any film in this genre.

.
Let me remind you that the link you provide is to change the orbit of the earth in the solar system. The wandering earth program refers to taking the earth to another galaxy.
Secondly, the original work of wandering the earth was created in 2000. The books you provided were created around 2008.

Liu Cixin, author of <The Wandering Earth>. In 2015, Liu Cixin won the Hugo Award, the highest award in the field of science fiction. Obama, Hawking, Bill Gates, etc are his loyal fans. When Obama was president of the USA, he specially attended the press conference of Liu Cixin new book.

No the books were not created around 2008. The article itself talks about science fiction on how to move the Earth and there are books in the list going back decades on doing that.

Try watching Snow Piercer, watch the trailer you will understand why its so special.

Its a movie about revolution

Very interesting. Though there are technicalities not explored at least in the trailer like people cramped together will be hard put in making elaborate physical effort, still I like the revolutionary spirit of the film - the have nots vs the haves.

her accent is f-ing hilarious...

According to one comment on the page it's not a "her" but a "him". Also, about the support dancers, those garish half saris and those ridiculous Bharatanatyam dance poses of putting the hands together and moving the head side-to-side, is so cringey and this cringe is supposed to represent India.

This thread is a joke. Reality is that the Chinese film industry and Bollywood are fighting for scraps and are midgets compared with the colossus of Hollywood. The only thing close to Hollywood would be South Korea's media industry, in terms of global appeal, and even then, it's only a pale sidekick that was given its blessing by the Hollywood elite.

Yeah, I don't get these Chinese posters bragging about having huge box offices. Yeah, if your country has 1.4 billion, you're going to have a huge box office. The huge sales of these Chinese movies only tell me about the rapid development of China's movie and theater going industries, but it really does nothing as far as being a tool of influence globally.
I know. I think it's just because most members on here are ultra nationalists, so rationality is the last thing in their mind. This is the case not only with Chinese members to be honest, but with members from every other country on here be it Indians, Pakistanis, Turks, Iranians, etc etc. So the bragging is normal on here.

Even with a clear topic like this one, where we can clearly see that Chinese movie is almost exclusively local with little to no box office revenue outside the country, yet some members here are saying China is challenging the US Hollywood, a country who almost completely dominates the world movie industry and box office worldwide.
The issue with China's entertainment industry is not a lack of talent or skills, since a large educated populous increasingly wealthy country like China should have a far more influential entertainment industry and influence globally. The issue is the country's system as well, since the nature of the government itself and censorship discourages certain types of movies from being made.
The CCP even prohibits too much violence , blood, ghosts etc in movies. Just look at this example of one successful Chinese ghost producer whose movie was censored for such reasons( according to the party for promoting ghosts and superstitions. Lol )

Even American movies products won't perform much better if they were acting in such an environment in China, since it stiffles creativity and impedes you from even coming up with certain types of ideas/movies. Lol

Secondly the country is too focused on their internal market (guess its because they have a huge population), so they focus almost exclusively on China, unfortunately people around the world aren't that attracted to Chinese culture per se, so there is little incentive for foreigners to search for such movies in China.

Thirdly but funny enough, internet censorship also plays a part . Since Chinese Internet space is basically closed up and isolated to the world akin to a North Korea situation in this sector. So Chinese media, entertainment and Internet players are closed off from interacting with a global audience. This impedes growth, interaction, exchange of ideas/inspiration, and discovery of some good unknown movies in China. This is also another big handicap for the country and an unintended consequence of the great firewall. For example if not for Chinese members in China on here telling us about this movie on this thread I'm sure most of us won't even know about this movie, since I personally have never even heard of it until I saw this hread. Lol So this shows how important connectivity in the Internet era is , those who are closed off are at some sort of disadvantage globally not locally though.
In fact all the few Chinese members in China on here have to use VPN to bypass the great firewall and have access to this site and interact with audiences globally. If not for that none of them will even be on here. So imagine the vast majority of Chinese people who don't use VPN and who will never really connect or interact much with the world online.

So it's understandable for such a huge increasingly prosperous country to be punching way below its weight in this sector. Small South Korea with 50million people has achieve way more global media and entertainment influence globally than China. Its not like they are just better than China , there are political reasons for that.

Same story on Google, most Chinese seem to love it, Rest of the world and some Chinese seems to hate it.

Almost no one in the mid stars or moderate views.

On the other hand, if you check a movie like "3 idiots", movie that was not polarizing

It's the money count and that is why it is challenging the Hollywood movie.

Just like Chinese C919 passenger plane. It can be a plane sold in China only but with 1000 plane sold vs a world wide use passenger plane but most countries only buy 3-4 planes.. that rake up total sales of 300 planes.

Which is more successful? The plane that sold more or the plane that is use more worldwide?

Agreed. China’s censorship and political over management is stifling artistic creativity. The funny thing is that most of Hollywoods products are actually garbage so considering China’s immense resources, they are really doing a terrible job to not be able to match hollywood. Lol

The government has too much control over messaging and that is why genres depicting horror, sexuality, social critique are all underrepresented, even though those genres are the most intriguing to human curiosity.

.
Movies need greater freedom, artistry to work effectvely, and china's censorship on violence, sex ,and radical thoughts might be stifling, though it's not detrimental. TV dramas are more relatively easier to navigate between these limitations, with more everyday life materials.I think China is still developing it' style instead of copying the Western filmmaking style.

China isn't solely dependent on movies to spread their soft power, their tv drama is effective,it's far more wide reaching than bollywood, having typical east asian aesthetics similar to Korean and Japanese tv shows ,but with Chinese flair.
Chinese has more appealing actors and actresses and china is much more developed and culturally rich, hence more aesthetic naturally, it's NOT hard to command more soft power than Bollywood. It's normal.

What she said about the cold deaths may certainly be true but it was a righteous fight. China of those days couldn't let the so-called UN forces overrun DPRK and install a Capitalist regime subservient to the Western governments. It is good that the Chinese journalist who mocked the film - however much an exaggeration it may be - was castigated because he truly mocked the sacrifices of his compatriots who were not in a wrong war. I say this even though I am against wars.

Also, the USSR provided not only materiel in the wider war but also human elements like pilots.

Lastly, for you and me as Indians, it is unfortunate that the Indian military participated in this Western invasion of Korea under the so-called UN flag. The Indians were medical units but it is undeniable that they would have participated in armed action against the Communists.

.
Long time no post, but the best asian media comes from the japanese (anime, manga, samurai movies) and old HK movies.

Korean modern movies are all pretty boys and girls following Hollywood.
Chinese modern movies are also pretty boys following Hollywood blockbusters.

A pretty sad sight when a cartoon/anime series like Demon Slayer is more asian than most of them.

Fight was righteous, but victory was pyrrhic. Lots of lives lost, and end result is dictatorship. Not sure who won, if North Koreans didn't eventually get the right to rule themselves.

Communism is no good without democracy with full adult franchise and basic human rights.
Here is a video from Arab vlogger, Nuseir Yassin, report on North Korea. Seems opposite of Jamahiriya

Imagine people crying like this after the death of Modi.

South Korea seems to be doing very well compared to North Korea.
