You only suck up technology from the West. China sends students to the West, while hate the West at home.

You cheer your talent going to foreign universities and place great value on the approval of the foreign master. You try to prove your worth to foreigners by ascribing value to their institutions and values.

We lament our talent leaving because we have nothing to prove. The many scientific discoveries named after Chinese scientists like Yang-Mills Theory, Lee-Yang Theorem and Asteroid Zhouyouyuan speak for themselves. The less talent that leaves, the better.

Zhou Youyuan wasn't educated in the west. Neither is Yuan Longping, winner of the Wolf Prize. There's more, I'll refrain from name dropping too many.

But now, I wonder why it is that there are so many in the Vietnamese diaspora yet very few of them are elite scientists. I mean, you have so many opportunities to study in the west, as you just said. Vietnamese student numbers are increasing for 18 years, you said.

So where are their achievements?

I acknowledge that Vietnamese have strong mathematical skills. I personally am not that good at proof based math. The biggest difference between Vietnamese and Chinese is in the physical sciences.

Personally I have worked in Vietnam and overseas. I have visited Huawei labs.

My opinion: Vietnam higher learning institution still need to catch up. But so far in SE Asia, Singapore is number one and Vietnam number two.

But Vietnamese who did any stage of their education overseas can be quite smart.

The most rubbish is Malaysia. Most are Malays. Employment base on race. I really doubt Malaysia academic IQ.

Vietnamese are makers. We are engineers, producers. We are not inventors. We make things happen. We win wars. You invented gunpowder but we made rifles. We created infantry. We crushed the one million men Mongol army. We annihilated Champa, Khmer, Siam. When did you win a war against foreign army?
