For some 2 decades Indians are brainwashed to use Microsoft Windows(different versions server platform to window 7).
They undermine the UNIX® Operating Systems like OpenBSD ,Debian Linux or Even OS X(Apple) etc.I believe their ultimate goal is to become MVP(Microsoft Value Proffessional) rather than to learn real Security.
PS:It is satirical
I agree with you that Linux gives engineers more flexibility and comprehensibility to configurate the server security, but I disagree with you that windows server has poor security. Comparing to linux system, windows server has less flexibility and comprehensibility, but it provides convenient config tools that can let people with less knowhow to build a server easily, and the most important thing is windows server security is well tested, and when some security holes are found, windows provides patch files to recovery it automiticly very promptly. For Linux, in such situation, the engineers need recovery the security holes manually, and more worse case, they do not even know there exist such security holes.
Back to the topic, I do not think this news is real because the following reasons.
Defense Ministry computers is very important, for such important servers, the packets communication should be performed using PPN(Physical Private Network) or VPN(Virtual Private Network), either of them can not be hacked easily as far as I know. For PPN, that is imposible to hacked it from outside network, because it uses physical private line to connect computers and servers, PPN is compeletely cut off from the world internet. The only way which can hack it is find a way to bypass a terminal which connected with the PPN pysically and that can only be worked out only when the hackers are beside the terminal physically. by the way, in most country, their defence system network uses PPN.
For VPN, though it uses world network, it seperates the network as a private line virtually using encryption like SSL and certification mechanism. To hack VPN you must know the certification ID and password to connect to the VPN. Considering no one will tell the hackers that, the only way to get certufication ID and password is to set a packet bugging device to the providers' routers which perform the VTN services, and analyze/decode the binary data to get ID and password. Even though, decoding packets which are encrypted are extremely difficult and mostly the hackers need some other hints. There are very little hackers in the world can do these.
So, unless the millitary engineers are as stupid that expose such important millitary servers to the public network without using PPN or VPN(I think there are no engineer in the world will do that.), it is very very hard to hack it.
So, the news possiblly is a fake news.
