Chinese scientists unveil futuristic designs of earth-moon delivery system, manned lunar rover

Click to try the "sky ladder" and "manned lunar rover" envisaged by Chinese scientists. The "ladder" will transport humans and goods to the moon for just four percent of the current cost

This is the one aspect of the coming cold war between the west and China that I'm looking forward to; Space exploration.

Last time it drove humans to the moon, I wonder what could be achieved now.

China is in no mood to have any races with anyone, we just do things based on our own pace.

Well, if China pursues space exploration, the West would automatically follow and try to compete whether China intends for that to happen or not. I think you know that very well.

Whether progress is made for science or for prestige, it is progress nonetheless. So I'm glad either way.

Sadly just a dream right now. Not even in China material science is anywher near advanced enough to support an earth to space cable lift. Maybe in 10 or 20 years we can look into it again

Wow...this moon rover is just as crude as the 1960's era Apollo moon rovers. Can't you send up something substantial?
1960's lunar rover (driven by John Young BTW)

US used to be about bright red, white and blue flags, baseball and apple pies.

Now even the flag is black.

China wants to build 'Sky Ladder' to Mars to beam up humans, cargo
China aims to put people on Mars by 2033.

  • China wants to build a “Sky Ladder” to Mars.
  • The country’s top rocket manufacturer will reportedly create a space capsule to travel up a carbon nanotube ladder that will act as a delivery system to transport people and equipment from Earth to Mars.
  • It said it believes it would cut the current transportation costs by 4 percent.
China wants to build a “Sky Ladder” to Mars as part of the country’s plans for future Mars expeditions, according to China’s state-owned media the Global Times.
The country’s top rocket manufacturer, Wang Xiaojun, announced this week that China is aiming to put people on Mars by 2033, and a part of its plan includes what it is calling the “Sky Ladder.”

The “Sky Ladder,” a space capsule that travels up a ladder constructed from carbon nanotubes, will act as a delivery system to bring people and equipment from Earth to Mars.

According to Global Times, Wang Xiaojun hasn’t indicated the specifics of how the ladder would work in detail, however, it said it believes it would cut the current transportation costs by 4 percent.

Totally not practical stuff by american. The truck look nice and futuristic but have u think how much cost it will take to bring this to moon instead of what Chinese suggest?

I can bet the truck weight at least 7-8tons..

The moon is 11,000 Km in circumference. You are going to need heavy equipment to explore.

:rolleyes1: Isn't this the other way around?

I think the problem wasn't that the West in general and the US in particular aren't capable. They just got too complacent after the iron curtain fell. NASA funding has been very much cut which obviously limits it's capabilities.

Otherwise, if the pursuit of space exploration was not politics driven and had been learning driven, the US would have probably had a working colony on the moon at least if not Mars.

The Chinese factor will bring back the motivation that the Soviets once provided.

NASA is driven by science. Putting a colony on Mars or the Moon at the expense of finding out how the rest of the solar system works is not their priority.

NASA has sent probes to visit every planet and many of their moons. They are working on rovers and drones.

Now they feel pressure to divert that money to the moon.

Anyways if SpaceX can get the Starship working NASA will have a far easier time with their budget. Just one Starship has a greater cargo volume than the entire ISS.

Just imagine lifting a new space station with one launch. Imagine another for ESA. Another for JAXA, etc.
