According to Einstein's quantum theory of light, a monochromatic light-wave of angular frequency , propagating through a vacuum, can be thought of as a stream of particles, called photons, of energy.

Quantization means making infinite number of states of a particle into finite number of states. This will simplify the calculations .

It would have to refer to the speed of "gravitons," and measured with a moving body in a field....because in cases like the sun's effect on earth it appears "continous" and instantanous. Even using another body moving in the field is difficult (such as effects of venus on earth as it peeks around the sun) would be hard, because the field already "exist"....and its movement is "instantanous" with the movement of the body.

the source must have published something wrong..gravity is referred by acceleration which is rate of change of speed.the term "speed of gravity is absurd" may be it has to say rate of change of gravity

Have they got enough evidence to prove it, because the speed of Gravity has been equated with the speed light on many theoretical calculations, specially in deriving the Unification theory. And in one documentary, Michio Kaku said the same.

A little like having general relitivity and newtonian physics in a box and not wanting to open it just incase the earth realises its orbit is unstable ;)

It is not yet clear mate the research is in primitive state. Chinese claims needs some confirmation.

In December 2012, a research team in China announced that it had produced findings which seem to prove that the the speed of gravity is equal to the speed of light. The team's findings were due to be released in a journal in 2013.

Nothing new....General relativity predicts that the speed of a gravitational wave is equal to the speed of light. Since then there were many attempts to prove this prediction, but all resulting in failures. Let us see whether the efforts by Chinese will stand the scrutiny. But coming from Chinese I would take this with a pinch of salt

my bad..thnx..in my 4 yrs of mech eng..i did not come across this term...though it belonged to newtonian mechanics..but now i know it's quantum mechanics hence i never knew..

No, this is not about the typical formula we've learned in general physics, where it measures the acceleration of an object under gravitational force. Instead, this is about how fast can gravity reaches an object.

the above links by the OP are just very basic introductions. Anyone who is serious in knowing the full process of experiment and the result has to read the paper carried by the German publisher or wait until Jan 2013 release on Chinese Science Bulletin!

By applying the new data to the propagation equation of gravity, the team found that the speed of gravity is about 0.93 to 1.05 times the speed of light with a relative error of about 5 percent, providing the first set of strong evidence showing that gravity travels at the speed of light.
How can anything in the universe travel FASTER than the speed of light? This is a bunch of unmitigated nonsense! :P

Secondly, the gravitational equation says that the force of gravity is proportional to the product of the two masses (m1 and m2), and inversely proportional to the square of the distance (r) between their centers of mass. Mathematically speaking,

F=Gm1m2 / r2,

where G is called the Gravitational Constant. It has a value of 6.6726 x 10-11 m3 kg-1 s-2.

Gravity is present everywhere in space thanks to Dark Matter which is responsible for mass in the universe. More the mass of an object, more the gravity. Where does speed come in?

The 'speed' of gravity doesn't figure in this at all. If the Chinese are correct, then we need to revisit this formula too.

A significant fact, usually overlooked, is that Newton’s law of gravity does not involve time.

Gravity must act instantly for the planets to orbit the Sun in a stable fashion. If the Earth were attracted to where the Sun appears in the sky, it would be orbiting a largely empty space because the Sun moves on in the 8.3 minutes it takes for sunlight to reach the Earth. If gravity operated at the speed of light all planets would experience a torque that would sling them out of the solar system in a few thousand years.

So much for the so called 'speed' of gravity! :P

Speed of gravitational wave is equal to speed of light (atleast in theory). Why would you assume that its impossible for speed of gravitational force to be greater then light?

It is not to say that things cannot go faster than light. They may go. Weird things keep happening in the Universe. But Physics as we know cannot explain things that go faster than light. We need new theories.
