Chinese scientists develop new quantum computer with 113 detected photons

.
China didn’t publish it because it knows it’s systems will be supplanted in short order. Frontier began installation in September and is expected to surpass Chinese systems performances. Aurora and El Capitan are also expected to surpass those systems. Whether China was first to exascale is irrelevant to me. What matters is that the US is investing in systems that overmatch China’s and the rest of the worlds.

It’s like bragging about the Soviets sending the first man to space, when the US did it 3 weeks later and completely surpassed Soviet/Russian capabilities.

The entire race was who will reach exascale barrier first. It was China that reached exascale first. China won the race.

The fact you don’t care is irrelevant. The race was to reach exascale first and China did it first.

China will surpass Frontier, Aurora and El Capitan with subsequent supercomputers like normal. But the exascale barrier was first crossed by China. This will be a fact forever.

As for first man into space, it was Yuri Gagarin. Not an American. This will always be the fact forever.

No one cares about a race when the “victor” is surpassed in short order. Who cares about reaching exascale first in March when that same system is set to be surpassed any month now? It’s stupid. It’s all about investing in overmatch.

Well IBM quickly threw a few more qubits in just to take the crown back.

Isn't this still in development? So IBM with 127 qubits will be roughly two times the latest Chinese light based quantum computer. I like this sort of competition between the US and China. I guess 127 qubits is ready now or will be before 2022.

The crown went from USA to China to USA to China to USA... it is a cycle just like with supercomputers.

But with supercomputers, China has taken the crown at the moment with two exascale machines. The US will eventually make something better and then the cycle continues just like with quantum computers, the most recent announcement of in development and soon to be ready gives the crown to US and then the cycle continues and China makes something better.

Yes and the announcements from both sides with these seasonal progress and newest ones that take crown is not as important as who can make quantum machines useful first then have the software to apply them.

One thing is for sure, China and the US are both top level computing technology nations with countries like Japan and Germany as second tier and the rest are so far behind.

Nice try to deflect

First to space. First to moon. First to break the 10 second barrier in 100m sprinting. First to exascale. All these things matter. It does matter who was first. The first is always remembered.

That’s why humans have races. To see who is first. If the US was first to exascale you would be on here crowing about how the US is the first to exascale and China is second.

Spin it however you want to soothe your bruised ego but China won the exascale supercomputer race. That’s final.

And even then, 20 exaflop Chinese system is coming soon.

China also deployed the first quantum communication network in the world, so quantum computing is already seen as not a big deal.

And even there, just a few individuals in basements are making entire multinationals sweat.

Imagine if Huawei got into the quantum computing game with the resources they have. They would be leading.

Nope, not when the US is installing an exascale system as we speak that outperforms Chinese systems. All that matters is the US investing in capabilities that overmatch its competitors.

The Soviets beat the US to space by ……23 days.

Meanwhile, no other nation has stepped on the Moon in over 50 years.

The US is installing a superior exascale machine only 6 months after China reached exascale. That’s what matters. US investing in superior capability.

I don’t care if the Soviets beat the US to space in 1 second. They beat you. End of.

China beat the US to exascale supercomputer. End of.

The competition in computing between the two major computing superpowers USA and China is a good thing. If not for US progress China would have less desire to push and if not for China's progress US would have less desire to push. Both wish the other is not continuing progress but at the same time they derive so much motivation from the other as well.

(Wannabe) White supremacist trolls try hard to blend out that about a quarter of the team working on their just barely catching up "American" computer, finally saving their fake smug attitude from last months disgrace of finding nothing worthwhile on Google to deny Chinas achievements and forcing them to cope with stupid end of the century planing sheets, are in fact East Asians 😂

Just like for the past decades every Syrian Arab and Polish Slav working in Europe, due to not coincidental circumstances fucking up their homeplaces, suddenly is turned into a white "Westerner", so some inbreed American trailer trash can proudly claim credit for his "Western" inventions.

This is all just a reflexive coping mechanism to deal with challenges to their national mythos of inherent superiority that many Americans blindly identify with due to heavy indoctrination and constant brainwashing, so they make it a personal insult to them when facts completely unrelated to them challenge it, prompting these irrational outbursts and tirades.

It doesnt matter why and how and how many times Chinese reseachers surpassed the US or hit a milestone before the USA. It doesnt actually matter what the US is doing. They dont care about the subject anways. They only bother to treat it as a race or fair competition as long as they feel like they are winning it. They arent simply sore losers, they reject the very idea that they can lose. In their fantasy world the inferiority of China and other supposed subjects is the important constant and all their trolling and dumb rethoric revolves around this point.

What position do you think I’d rather be in? The first country to space for bragging rights? Or the country that completely surpassed that nation in space capabilities and whose space programs are now on life support?

All that matters is the consistent investment in superior capabilities.

Quantum computing is the next big thing. It is so heartbreaking to see that not one university in Pakistan is doing even theoretical work on this field.
