China (probably) does not want war , China is one of the most peaceful (and at the same time powerfull) nation that mankind has ever seen, a peacefull giant, what happened at Galwan valley & the reason why this time the Chinese decided to be brutal was that China got fed up with India's constant childish behavior, whenever there is an election or problem in India, Indian politicians would start trouble at the border to gain popular support, especially knowing that China is a peacefull nation that concentrates on economic development, they mistook China's kindness as weakness, China decided enough is enough & showed the Indians that China can be ruthless, the extreme measures that China took in Galwan will also benefit China in the South China sea, because unlike the Indian public.. the governments in the ASEAN reagion don't take their information from Indian news media, in other words ASEAN governments know that what happened in Galwan was a one sided massacre, so now these governments will realize that the peacefull giant can be ruthless if provoked, thus making it much less likely that any of these governments would provok China (but obviously it still doesn't guarantee that).
