To be honest, I am not too proud of this. I'll be proud once China can make something of their own and compete with S-300/400.

Don't worry too much about it. It does nothing to tarnish China's image or credibility as an arms manufacturer to import. The United States imports marine gas turbines from Britain to power the Zumwalt (just about the only thing worthwhile on that failure of a ship). @LKJ86 would know better than I would, but I think the HQ-9B is superior to every S-300 variant.

I'm sure China could manufacture something at least as good as the S-400 - the question is, is it worth China's time and effort to do so?

There was a very intriguing article a while back that was published (and since deleted) on Novaya gazeta that alleges that the S-400's 40N6 missiles were "damaged" in transit because they were ineffective and Russia needed some way to weasel out of the contract. I find it suspicious that the missiles were sent on a very long journey by sea in bad weather rather than sent by rail.

Sure,but its unfair here bro. CN help Nothing to Pak duting Pak-Ind conflict, then why many Cnese trolls, calling another one is monkey, posting pictures violating forum rules here still get no warning ??

exactly my feeling. The Indians are jumping like monkeys getting the S-400...to me, it's just shows our technology is still not good enough. We must surpass the Russians in air defence. I believe we are working hard on this. The future I want is where I see our weapons being superior to American ones, not just Russian ones.
