India, China mature enough to resolve differences: SM Krishna​

Hoping to write a "brighter chapter" in history jointly with China, India today said the two countries have maturity and wisdom to deal with any differences as they realise the importance of mutual sensitivity to each other's core concerns.

External affairs minister SM Krishna said the two countries do not see any contradiction in each other's rise and understand the importance to leverage growth and development through mutual cooperation.

"Both of us have an abiding commitment to the Panchsheel principles that we jointly initiated, and realise the importance of mutual sensitivity to each other's core concerns and interests," Krishna said at a function organised by the ICWA where Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao delivered a lecture.

"As inheritors of ancient civilisations, the modern nation-states of India and China have the maturity and wisdom to deal with any differences through dialogue and diplomacy," the external affairs minister said.

Noting that Wen's visit shows a commitment to forge stronger political trust, maturely address differences, Krishna said he was confident that both countries will be able to jointly write an even "brighter chapter" in the history in years ahead.

"His visit to India symbolises the rendezvous between 1.3 billion Chinese people and 1.1 billion Indians. It will set the terms of engagement between the two fastest growing economies in the world," he said.

Showering praise on Wen for his efforts in improving ties with India, Krishna said he presided over a period of unprecedented intensification of bilateral ties, personally steering the relations from strength to strength.

"It was during his previous visit in April, 2005 that India and China established a strategic and cooperative partnership for peace and prosperity," he said.

Crediting sagacity and shared vision of Wen and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for improvement in ties, Krishna said how India and China interact with each other, and jointly with the rest of the world, is a topic of immense contemporary importance.

Chinese premier says Sino-Indian relations important to world peace, development

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here Wednesday that the relationship between China and India not only benefits the two peoples, but also is of great significance to peace and development in Asia and the world as a whole.

Speaking during an evening banquet hosted in his honor by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Wen said that recent years had witnessed enriched contents of the Sino-Indian relations, whose influence is on the rise.

He noted that the year 2010 marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and India.

He expressed the hope that his visit would promote mutual trust and push for greater development in bilateral cooperation and exchanges in various areas, raising the Sino-Indian strategic and cooperative partnership to a new level.

Singh extended his warm welcome to Premier Wen, who is on his second official visit to India following his trip in 2005.

Singh said India attaches great importance to relations with China and cherishes friendship with the Chinese people.

I think there are many similarities between now and just before 1962. In 1959, there was a failed uprising in Tibet and Dalai Lama went to India. This was the beginning of the hostile relationship. In 2008, Dalai Lama went to Tawang to strengthen India's claim to that territory. This is also the beginning of the current deterioration of relationships.

So, in 1960, Zhou Enlai gives peace one last try and gives an offer on the border. India refused and very soon the war was on. Now in 2010, Wen Jiabao is coming to give peace one last try. It looks like India is saying no again.

So will the war this time happen in autumn like back in 1962 or will it happen in the spring or summer? What timing would Indian tactics prefer?

Trade is the only thing that can be done with the Chinese.

They will always be unfriendly or neutral towards India, they will continue to use Pakistan to counter India. But we can set aside these things and do business.

You should know better. When leaders meet, a lot goes on the talks and only some points are released to the media. I wouldnt expect Indian establishment to be silent on their isuues with China and am sure China as well would be sensitive to those.

However, at present China is the bigger economy and the big brother over there and India is slowly and silently getting there.

It will only be beneficial for China and India to be in good books of each other.

I think fighting a war is a good idea for both countries. Both countries want to be the #1 power in Asia. Fighting a successful war is helpful for domestic reasons too. Both countries are at a point of development where they need to prove to domestic audience that they are a true superpower!

Well, India tested its own nuclear bomb first.

So..China gives nukes to Pakistan? I do not think China will be too happy if someone gives nukes to Japan or Taiwan? Same thing.

However as the other Chinese member pointed out..India did poke her nose in the Tibetan issue though.Big mistake.

But I believe the animosity from some of the Indian media/establishment is due to to the nuclear issue not because of the war of 1962 as CardSharp believes.
