BEIJING (AP) — China's main state broadcaster released security camera footage Thursday showing that a man who was fatally shot by a policeman at a train station behaved aggressively and attacked the officer with a long baton before he opened fire.


The edited footage released on China Central Television gives a fuller — but not complete — picture of the scuffles leading up to the May 2 shooting of Xu Chunhe, 45, in the northeastern town of Qing'an, some of which had circulated online from a bystander's video clip.

The incident drew a public outcry over concerns that the policeman used excessive force, and release of the security footage appeared aimed at countering portrayals that it was an unprovoked police attack on the man. Also Thursday, police reaffirmed their conclusion that the shooting was justified.

One of Xu's lawyers, Xie Yanyi, has said that the policeman, Li Lebin, should be investigated on charges of murder. Another lawyer for the family, Li Zhongwei, said the video footage rmay have left out scenes in which Xu is beaten by the policeman.

The security footage shows the man punching the officer in the head and later wrestling away a 2-meter (6-foot)-long baton the officer used to try to subdue him and then using it to attack the officer.

At one point, while the officer is trying to hit the man with the baton, the man picks up his small daughter and holds her in front of himself before hurling her down onto the train station's paved floor.

Li, the police officer, said in an interview with CCTV that Xu was hitting him in the head and in his shooting hand, making it difficult to keep the gun steady. He said he had no choice but to aim his fire at the man because it was a crowded train station where a stray bullet might otherwise have hit a bystander.

Li, the lawyer, said Thursday that the edited video may play up the violence by Xu while downplaying the violence by the policeman. "We believe the full raw video from that day should be released to the public," said Li, who is unrelated to the police officer.

I have seen the video, thought the video was edited, but the released part has shown Xu's almost all behaviors before he was shot. Xu prevented people from entering the station at first, when the policeman stopped him, he attacked the policeman. The policeman went into the police office room, Xu followed the policeman and kicked the door. Then the policeman went out and held a baton to overpower Xu. They punched each other several times and Xu dragged his mom to fend off the policeman, then he even lift his 6 years old daughter over his head and threw her to the policeman. He didn't hit the policeman, and his daughter fell on the floor and cried. At last Xu wrested the baton from the policeman and wanna attack the policeman with it. The policeman warned Xu with a pistol in his hand. Xu didn't listened to the policeman and finally got shot.

When the incident happened, people were wondering if there was excessive force used by police. But after the video released, most people believe that the policeman did a right thing, because from the video, people can easily find that Xu lost his control at that time. Besides, in this incident, some lawyers's behaviors made almost all the people feel sick. Those lawyers made up fake stories on Weibo or the other social tools, lied to the public, expressed irresponsible comments about this incident. After this video exposed their lies, they still rubbished the police unreasonably. I have to say that thank god China is not governed by lawyers.​

Im not a fan of police carrying guns, batons alone have served well enough in the past. Had the policeman just won the fist fight in the first place the shooting would not have been necessary.

The only place where Chinese police should carry guns are in hot spots like Xinjiang. The rest of the country is generally safe enough where heavy rubber batons and tasers is enough. Also the use of firearms should be restricted to when the

perps have bladed weapons, explosives or guns.

Xu behaved mentally ill, perhaps it should be checked out. This situation is extremely grey and there could be no good outcome. The part with the grandma is really sad.

That cop should have won the fight but ended up losing his stick! Back to training for him.

First of all, this news have nothing to do with the US, stop dragging other country and use it to justify anything.

Secondly, it's all about the proportional use of force.

In the US, like many of youse like to say, people carry firearms, it is legal to own firearms and the police in the US have to consider so accordingly, they have to treat everyone, suspect or not, as potentially armed and dangerous. In most case, being black or not, shooting a suspect is largely justified and the standard of the police force is undoubted in US or in Canada.

Those who said LEA in the US like to shoot black people in the back have not even a slightest clue how Policing and Law Enforcement Work in any bit.

In China, things are a bit different, carrying and buying firearms in China are illegal, and the whole "Armed and Dangerous" have to take another approach as now a police officer would not consider a normal person armed and dangerous at any point until a weapon of sort are produced.

Do remember, police do not play judge, jury and executioner role, police worldwide are to protect and serve, and the protect part not only extended to the innocents, but also criminal. Police or any law enforcement officer only kills when they absolutely have to

I support Govt should give more power to action along with more good training to police in Vietnam.

In USA, police said you give your hands up, if you don't, still stick your hands in pockets, they can shoot you and mostly have immunity from prosecution.
In Vietnam, even when the suspects hold their stick, bar or knife to attack the polices, policeman must try to size the suspects by bare hands or policemen's equipments at first, can not shoot freely.

权老太今年80岁，黑龙江人，三个孩子分别3岁、4岁、5岁，都是她 的亲孙女、亲孙子。她上一次领孩子在连乞讨被救是4月10日。救助站工作人员张军向记者介绍，当天4人在站北广场轻轨站附近乞讨，也引起了大量群众围观， 一些市民还跟警察和救助站工作人员一起照顾孩子，等了躲起来的权玉顺老人1小时，甚至还有市民往老人身上塞了好几百块钱，让她给孩子买些吃的穿的。

既然当地政府已经给权老太一家做了救助安排，那老人为什么还要几次 三番外出乞讨？李姓村长说：“她说在大连乞讨一天能要到1000块钱。”经村长介绍，原来权老太一直在外乞讨，近年来这位村长接到过很多地方救助部门护送 其返乡的电话，“儿子知道她在外面要了很多钱，就问她要，不给就抢啊。”村长说。

据工作人员介绍，权老太并不亏待孙子孙女，她也给孩子们买火龙果、榴莲等高档水果，吃肉、虾、鱼齐全的高档快餐。而她乞讨的收入也的确不菲，每天多则上千少则七八百。

救助站工作人员告诉记者，目前在大连街头的乞讨人员，绝大多数都是职业乞讨，他们的日收入少则一二百多则上千。
