Chinese opinion on the Rohingya issue

With who? With Rohingyas? With Bangladeshis? Her credentials couldn't be higher in the West and in Myanmar.

She held a reception in London for the UK based Burmese. The Kachins and more so the Rohingyas tried to kick up a stink but they were roundly ignored.

With the 1 billion Muslims in the world and many of her own people ........

Well, there are 7 billion people in the world 6 billion of whom are not muslims. So that's a moot point. As for her own people, the majority oppose backing down to the Rohingya so that's no problem. Out of those muslims, most of them are too preoccupied with Syria to care about the Rohingya. So once again, ASSK has played a masterstroke. The only ones who lose out are the unfortunate Rohingya.

.
Well, I was guessing Suu Kyi's state of mind and that she may not help, this kind of confirms it, provided that this is an authentic source and not a cooked up or tainted one. This should reduce wastage of time barking up the wrong tree.

Well the Rohingyas are her own people and I forgot to mention that the Chinese do not seem to like her either. So you have the Muslims and the Chinese who both dislike her attitude to the Rohingya's and the lack of direction in her policies for Myanmar.

The Chinese may not like her because she is pro-West but I'm sure they appreciate that she is a very shrews politician and global icon. Infact, it was actually the Chinese who pressure the generals to work with her so I'm sure they are well aware of the situation (the generals absolutely despise her and it was China who told them that in order to open up to the world, she must have some role in the government).

Make absolutely no mistake though, the Chinese don't give a damn about the Rohingya.

Seems like there are a lot hardliners in Suu Kyi's party. And they are trying to adopt a Western style democracy? This isn't going to end well.

.
Who said anything about a Western style democracy? It'll be a Burmese democracy with Burmese values. Similar examples are Indonesia and Thailand.

Democracy Myanmar style is the best way forward however it takes time to develop but for the mean time she must solve her internal ethnic problems, especially in the Rokhine State. Too much international attentions harm foreign investments.

Last month the Myanmar Government began a campaign to welcome her Diasporas to come home to invest and help rebuild the country and I was told by some of my friends in New York that many intellects are considering going home. This is a welcome news.

Well, the politburo of the central kingdom's main concern is the Kachin because they are on the China border and they can commit terrorist acts on the pipeline and railways. They are far more important. What's slipped under the news radar is that the Kachin Independence Organisation was recognised as a legitimate political party last week so there's progress on that front. As for the Rohingya, there will probably be no backing down as long as there is even a hint that they want to secede from the union. Anyway, they won't be a problem in the bigger picture.

Yes, I am very happy and very proud that the diaspora is being welcomed back. My dad has already gone back to retire in Myanmar. I also know of someone who became a university lecturer in the west who has now gone home to take a job as an advisor in Myanmar. I myself am now seriously considering going home properly for the first time. I can't remember a timewhen Burmese people have been more optimistic.

Suu Kyi or no Key is not an issue. The issue is its been going on for decades. I still remember the headlines of weekly Bichitra titled, " People are coming like the tide of the Naf river,"

Religious violence recently broke out in west Myanmar's Rakhine state. The Myanmese authorities have reportedly announced a curfew in several regions, including the city of Kyaukpyu.

Kyaukpyu is not a trivial place, especially for China. The city, located in Rakhine state which is in the middle of Myanmar's western coast, has close ties with China.

An oil and gas pipeline, about 2,380 kilometers long, is planned to start from here. Before long, it will stretch all the way to the Chinese city of Kunming. A highway and a railway are under simultaneous construction.

With this project accomplished, a large portion of the crude oil that China imports from the Gulf and Africa can land from Kyaukpyu and be delivered to China, rather than go through existing route in the Strait of Malacca.

More convenient transportation of crude oil is just one of the benefits. What's far more important is that China will face much less strategic pressure in its energy transportation through the Strait of Malacca and the South China Sea.

Myanmar's development, its political geometry, and its issues, like ethnic and religious conflicts, directly link to China's interests. China is not just a bystander, and it can't afford just to stand by.

It seems China and Bangladesh want the same thing. A stable and economically vibrant Myanmar. Conflict in Myanmar adversely affects both China and Bangladesh.

Unfortunately conflict cannot be avoided when a usurper and oppressor is empowered. I think the Chinese strategists need to revisit this Burma-North East India theater. Both India and Burmese Junta have joined hands to oppress local population and minorities against their wish, to exploit resources. Without resolving these issues, thinking about connectivity is premature. An independent North East India will be a dream for the Chinese, if it was achievable and a great gift to Bangladesh as well. Independent minority states or at least federalized autonomy in Burma would stabilize these areas, which will make them accessible for building infrastructure.

Kallu- what are you thoughts on dividing Bangladesh in 10 smaller parts... you can be president for one part- other 9 parts could be shared by likes of idune, munshi etc... the more I think with this "strategic vision"more I am convinced that this is the best way to bring peace in to the region & bring prosperity to PDF bangladeshi members..imagine being president of a country- how wonderful does that sound... :D what do you say!!! :undecided:

If you act smart, we will throw back the bangladeshis living in india.
